As a Result of Having Served, THOUSANDS of Veterans Lose Second Amendment Rights

When signing up for the military, one should be well-aware of the risks to his or her life. However, one of the risks that has creeped-in is affecting military veterans after they have been discharged from the military.

Amongst all the fine print of a service contract, there is likely no mention of the fact that after you have served your country, you may be required to relinquish your Second Amendment rights.

That’s right- the very rights for which so many proud, patriotic citizens fight are not guaranteed to the service members when they return from combat. Those who have seen horrific things, the government argues, cannot be trusted with a firearm in their personal lives.

According to a report from Western Journalism, service members are at risk of losing their liberties:

The idea was first hatched during the Bill Clinton administration. And it works like this:

When a veteran, as a result of a traumatic experience abroad, seeks disability benefits and/or counseling, the VA moves to appoint a guardian to manage that veteran’s financial affairs.

Under illegitimate Bill Clinton interpretations by the ATF, this “inability to handle his (or her) financial affairs” would make the veteran “mentally defective” under 18 U.S.C. 922 (g) (4), and hence legally barred from owning a gun or ammunition.

Unfortunately, another so-called pro-gun group worked with anti-gun Senator Chuck Schumer in 2007 and 2008 to pass the Veterans Disarmament Act, which codified these unlawful actions into statutory law. reported recently that people who live with veterans are now being ordered not to possess a gun. And get this: some veterans are being told they can “buy back” their gun rights by forgoing their VA benefits!

One veteran, who is an attorney and who has studied this problem closely, said: “this is illegal and is called extortion.”

Currently, there could be as many as 200,000 military veterans who have been affected by this gun ban. It’s time to do something about it.

This is the face of modern gun control; the old-school method of frontal attack (ie: Brady Campaign-style pushes for federal bans) have proved ineffective. With Supreme Court rulings affirming our Second Amendment rights and the complete lack of progress on a federal level for anti-Second Amendment initiatives, America’s gun-grabbers have cleverly switched tactics.

Now, we are to believe that liberals “don’t have a problem” with gun ownership- they just want to make sure the “mentally unfit” don’t have access to them.

Sounds reasonable, right? But who are the deciders of who is and who is not “mentally unfit?” The very same people who, for years, have worked to try to wrestle firearms out of the hands of law-abiding citizens.

The best way to defeat tyranny is to shine a spotlight on it. Share with your friends: they’re coming for your guns; they’re just being more clever about it.
