Former Republican presidential candidate Dr. Ben Carson, who now spends his time as a surrogate for Donald Trump, who once compared the retired neurosurgeon to a “pedophile” and a “child molester” (but his campaign manager said he doesn’t launch personal insults), appeared on MCNBC’s Morning Joe on Wednesday to discuss Hillary Clinton and Donald Trump’s medical history, which have yet to be released to the public, unlike prior presidential nominees.
Ben Carson, an advocate of returning civility to politics and therefore attached his wagon to uncivil Donald Trump soon after suspending his presidential campaign, said that both candidates should release their medical records because they’re “elderly.”
“I think that somebody who is running for President of the United States, particularly if they’re elderly, and that would include both major candidates, should disclose their medical history,” Carson said.
Neither major candidate has officially released their medical records, other than brief and vague letters from their supposed doctors maintaining their excellent health.
Donald Trump, 70, would be the oldest elected president in American history should he be elected in November (he turned 70 in June). Hillary Clinton turns 69 just before the election and would be the second oldest elected president, by months behind Ronald Reagan, should she get elected.
So even though neither candidate wants to hear it, it is a good idea for them to release their medical history, at least the past few years.
Recent polling indicates Americans would like to see both candidates medical records, as well as Trump’s tax returns.
