“I choose Ted Cruz because he is the only person running that knows the Constitution and understands the connection between following the Constitution and all the things we want in our lives.” ~ Keli Carender
Today I proudly, personally, and happily endorse Ted Cruz for President. Let me tell you why.
When the Tea Party movement began, I was 29-years-old, engaged to my now-husband, a math teacher, and improv comedian. Today, I am 36-years-old, soon will celebrate my sixth wedding anniversary, and a proud, blessed mom of an amazing 2.5-year-old little girl. My life (and my hair – I have white streaks now!) looks very different than it did seven years ago, but something that hasn’t changed are my core beliefs and values.
This past Monday, February 16, marked the seventh anniversary of a rally I held in 2009 in Seattle, WA to protest President Obama’s crony stimulus bill, three days before Rick Santelli’s rant. On February 20, 2009, there was a phone call with 22 concerned citizens from across the country. It was on this call that the idea and plan for the first round of nationwide Tea Party rallies were born. I was on that call, and for the next six years, I would eat, breathe, and sleep almost nothing but Tea Party.
I gave up a lot for this movement, as so many others have, and continue to do. A 24/7 commitment to the cause of rebuilding America took a toll in almost every area of my life, including my physical health. Many of you reading this know exactly what I’m talking about because it’s been hard on you too. In 2015, I stepped back from the intense, daily grind to be a full-time mom because raising my daughter was the right thing to do for her, and I knew that raising her with the right values was just as important to saving our country as anything else I had been doing.
What does it mean to “save our country?” What does it mean to you? What would it look like for you if America were rescued from its downward spiral? Let me tell you what it would look like for my family and me.
I want to be able to afford a bigger house. My husband and I would like to have more kids, and I want a bigger house in a better neighborhood. I want to be able to take care of my parents as they get older. I want my husband to be able to find work that isn’t so incredibly hard on his body and where he can earn more. I want to be able to sign my daughter up for dance, swimming, music, and all the other classes she might enjoy. I would love for my husband and I to take my daughter and our parents to Hawaii someday.
I want to know that we are as safe as we can be from threats like ISIS and from a government that uses these external threats to chip away at our privacy rights – I don’t want my government spying on me because I haven’t done anything wrong. Remember when the IRS targeted Tea Party groups? I want that sort of BS to stop. Our government shouldn’t be turned into a weapon to use against certain people just because they disagree with the president.
I want to start a business with my husband so that we can be our own bosses and spend more time together as a family. It’s getting harder and harder to start businesses in America because the government keeps putting up barriers that they say are for our own good, but which are really erected to keep regular people out and the well-connected people in. I want that to stop!
I want to have enough to save for a retirement that doesn’t force us to depend on the bankrupt Social Security program, and allows my husband and I to choose how we want to save for retirement. I want to dream big and work to achieve those dreams!
I want to be able to afford to buy healthy food for my family, and I also want to be able to buy junk food sometimes because every now and then, we all need some chocolate or donuts in our lives. I want to choose what kind of health insurance fits my family best – or whether we even want health insurance, and I want the government out of my relationship with my doctor. I want to know that government isn’t playing favorites with certain groups like illegal immigrants, giving them preferential treatment and benefits over American citizens and people who immigrate legally. I want secure borders.
I want to know that those that volunteer to serve in our military aren’t sent into battle with their hands tied behind their backs, and that when they return, they get the care they need — when they need it.
I want the ruling elites in Washington, D.C. and the media to get it through their thick skulls that they do not have a right to our paychecks, and they don’t get to impose their values on us. I want to teach my daughter my values and educate her in the way I choose.
What this all comes down to is that I want to be free. I want my daughter to be free. Throughout history, and everywhere in the world, human beings have fought and died for freedom. No one fights and dies to become a slave. And yet, the Permanent Political Class seems to believe that we were all born to serve them, as though this is all we want to do with our lives. I don’t know about you, but for me, their delusions end this year, and regardless of what they want, from now on it’s about my family and me pursuing our happiness. I don’t care what they want.
Right now, everything I want out of life is getting further and further out of reach for so many of us. Do you want to know why this is happening?
It’s happening because generations of elected officials have ignored and violated the principles enshrined in our Constitution. Seriously. It’s as simple as that. And the solution is just as simple. We must return to a constitutionally based form of government. That is the only way we have long-term success as a nation and as individuals and families. There is a candidate who promises to smash stuff and change it up, but his plans are not long-term solutions. The federal government has stolen power from the people and the only solution to that is to start following the Constitution so that we can take our power back.
When the government follows the Constitution, you will freer; you will be safer; you will be richer; you will be happier; you will make a better world for your children.
I choose Ted Cruz because he is the only person running that knows the Constitution and understands the connection between following the Constitution and all the things we want in our lives. I cannot support a candidate with a record of betraying the American people and the Constitution, such as Marco Rubio has done. And I cannot support a candidate – though I sincerely like certain things about him – who is totally fine with a government so big and so powerful that it can do whatever it wants to us, such as Donald Trump.
President Obama has turned the American presidency into something more like an emperor; one man who gets to remake government to carry out his own personal vision and desires for America, outside the bounds of the Constitution or our rights and freedoms. Trump frightens me because he never talks about following the Constitution as President. He never talks about taking power from the federal government and giving it back to us, the citizens. He talks about how he alone will make all the changes necessary, and he doesn’t give us many details because he says he doesn’t want to “tip his hand.”
This is what Obama has done for seven years. I can’t imagine having another president who just does what he wants without any boundaries or rules to protect us, the people. I’m afraid that this is what Trump would do as president because he never talks about the rules that should bind him. Trump may have short-term solutions that would help the economy, and he might secure our borders (though I don’t know if I trust him since he seems to change positions so frequently), but his solutions will do nothing for the long-term, and I am looking for a president whose solutions will rescue America not just for my lifetime, but for my daughter’s life, and her children’s lives, and so on.
The next President of the United States must do everything he can to take power from the federal government and give it back to us. He must do everything he can to stop the power-tripping lifetime bureaucrats who make our lives hard and miserable. He must do everything he can to wrangle the whole thing back into the structure laid out by the Constitution. Ted Cruz is the only candidate who promises to do all of this, and he is the only one who lived up to the promises he made when he ran for the Senate.
I don’t trust or like Marco Rubio, at all. I don’t trust Trump, even though I appreciate and like some of what he’s said and done. I trust and like Ted Cruz.
I want to start that business and buy a big house for my family. I see all that becoming a reality if Ted Cruz is the next president because he understands that what we need to achieve those goals is the Constitution and freedom. Vote Ted Cruz if you want to live free and have the chance to get what you want out of life.
Ted Cruz 2016!
