Carly Fiorina Launches a Cruz Missile Aimed Squarely at Trump’s ‘Outsider’ Status

“Why are voters voting for Donald Trump? It’s not because the voters are stupid, it’s because Donald Trump is lying to them.” ~ Carly Fiorina

Former GOP presidential candidate Carly Fiorina, who exited the race last month and endorsed constitutional Ted Cruz this week, told MSNBC’s Mika Brzezinski on Morning Joe that it is a myth that Donald Trump is going to tear down the establishment or “the system” and destroyed the narrative that he is somehow an “outsider” when he’s been part of the establishment his whole adult life.

“Here’s the thing about Donald Trump. He and Hillary Clinton are two sides of the same coin,” Fiorina asserted going on to explain that Hillary sold herself to the highest bidder and Donald Trump spent his career buying off corrupt politicians like and including Hillary Clinton.

“Donald Trump is the system that needs to be reformed. Hillary Clinton is the system that she claims she will reform. Hillary Clinton has made her millions selling access and influence from the inside of that system and Donald Trump has made his billions buying people like Hillary Clinton off.

They’re not going to reform the system — they’re going to defend the system.”

Fiorina went on to contend that Trump is lying to voters about wanting to reform the system or take down the establishment that he has been part of, among the “powerful, the wealthy, and well-connected.”

Fiorina’s argument rests on solid ground. Following Trump’s narrow win in Louisiana on “Super Saturday,” he bragged and even seemed surprised that he’s somehow viewed as the anti-establishment candidate, considering he was part of the establishment only seven months ago.

“You know, seven months ago, before I decided to run, I was a part of the establishment. But now I’m not part of the establishment,” Trump said on Saturday.

Then all the way back in February, Donald Trump told Sean Hannity:

I’ve been in politics for a long time…I used to be establishment. You know, I’d write big checks all the time, right? I was establishment.”

“Why are voters voting for Donald Trump?” Fiorina asked rhetorically. “It’s not because the voters are stupid, it’s because Donald Trump is lying to them,” she told the antagonistic MSNBC hosts who have been accused by many of being Trump propagandists.

“The big lie Donald Trump is telling is that he’s going to reform the system. He’s not going to reform the system — he is the system! He’s going to keep the system going that favors the big, the powerful, the wealthy and the well-connected and voters are fed up.”

It’s pretty difficult for Donald Trump to refute that he is, and has been a major part of the corrupt political establishment when he admits it in his own words.

The question is, why do his supporters — as well as virtually all media, whether conservative or liberal — keep portraying him as the “insurgent” or “outsider” or “anti-establishment” candidate when he has been the crony establishment’s moneyman for decades?
