Conservative Wisconsin radio host Charlie Sykes rose to national prominence following a heated interview with Donald Trump in the days prior to the Wisconsin primary, an election won by Texas Senator Ted Cruz .
Sykes appeared on Monday with FOX News’ Megyn Kelly to explain that while New York liberal Donald Trump is all but certain to be the GOP nominee, he remains firmly in the #NeverTrump camp and pulled no punches in explaining why.
Megyn Kelly asked how Charlie Sykes and others could be #NeverTrump when being so, according to Kelly, was the equivalent of a vote for Hillary Clinton.
“Well, Donald Trump is a serial liar, a con man who mocks the disabled and women. He’s a narcissist and a bully, a man with no fixed principles who has the vocabulary of an emotionally insecure nine-year-old.
So, no, I don’t want to give him control of the IRS, the FBI, and the nuclear codes — that’s just me.”
“Tell us how you really feel,” Kelly jumped in, uncomfortably laughing. “It doesn’t sound like there’s a whole lot of wiggle room there, Charlie,” she observed.
“I do see the rats swimming toward the sinking ship,” Sykes analogized, noting that his staunch opposition to Donald Trump is much more than ideological.
“It’s not just the fact that he’s abandoned one position after another or that he has a penchant for internet hoaxes or conspiracy theories.
I mean, a week ago tonight, remember, he was peddling the notion that Ted Cruz’s dad had something to do with the JFK assassination.”
Sykes told Kelly he doesn’t buy into the notion that because of “party loyalty” conservatives are supposed to embrace Donald Trump. Sykes warned his fellow conservatives that if they support Trump, they are endorsing the entire package and that the left will attempt to paint conservatives with every derogatory slur, smear, and insult he has levied during the campaign.
“The reality is, if you support him to be president of the United States, that is who you are and you own it,” Sykes proclaimed.
Sykes predicted a blowout for Democrats in November but noted that he has been fighting hard the past six months to try to stop this unfortunate situation from happening.
Charlie Sykes said that there are two really detestable people running for president, referring also to Hillary Clinton, that you’d think a country like America could do a lot better and that he is hopeful conservatives come out of the election with their integrity and dignity intact.
