Chemical Situation Shuts Down International Airport

A chemical situation at the London City Airport has led to an evacuation of 500 people and hospitalization of two, according to the BBC.

The evacuation occurred at 11 am Eastern after a number of people reported that they felt “unwell.” Hazmat teams are currently en route to investigate and clear the airport.Although London City Airport

Although the London City Airport, located in the eastern part of the city, is small, it is an international airport which serves travelers headed to destinations in the UK, Europe, and the United States.

In addition to the two individuals who were hospitalized, 26 people were treated on scene for breathing difficulties

Given its status as an international airport and the tendency of terrorists to attack “soft target locations,” could this be an act of terrorism?

UPDATE: 2:28 pm Eastern

London City Airport has been declared safe.
