Just last week, it was announced that Dr. Ben Carson, the former GOP presidential candidate who Donald Trump referred to as a “sick puppy” and likened to a child molester, would be heading Trump’s vice-presidential search committee.
In another flip-flop, however, it looks like a change has been made in the process, perhaps after Carson stated that there was a possibility Trump would choose a Democrat as a running mate. It was revealed on Tuesday that Corey Lewandowski, Trump’s thuggish campaign manager, will lead the search for his vice-presidential candidate.
Lewandowski officially took over the search for Trump’s running mate. His responsibilities include leading the team that will survey and vet potential VP picks. He is reportedly the point person for all related questions and meetings in the process.
Conversations with key Republican party are ongoing as a list of potential running mates is compiled. Key Trump allies and staff will also be involved in the process which is being described as a secretive selection.
Dr. Carson’s role in the process is now being described as “advisor” to the search.
In speaking of Carson, who he previously referred to as a “sick puppy” as he mocked his story of being healed of his anger issues through prayer, Trump now has high praise.
“He’s part of the team. Ben is a fantastic guy, I’ve become very friendly with him and have tremendous respect for him. He came in early and said there is a movement, I’d like to be part of it. He’s a good person and a smart person and he’ll be involved in lots of things.”
A few names have been floated around as potential running mates, including Marco Rubio and Nikki Haley who have both said they are not interested. Even though Trump himself mentioned weeks ago that he would be open to Rubio as a running mate, he of course took to Twitter to take a jab at those who have said they do not want to be part of his ticket.
It is only the people that were never asked to be VP that tell the press that they will not take the position.
