Several media outlets are reporting on Tuesday that constitutional lawyer and veteran of Operation Iraqi Freedom, David French, a Bronze Star recipient, will be launching a third-party independent run for the presidency against Democrat Hillary Clinton and Republican Donald Trump, two New York liberals with extremely high unfavorable ratings.
David French, who now writes for the conservative website National Review, the media outlet founded by famed conservative icon William F. Buckley, Jr., the same publisher that published the hard-hitting “Against Trump” piece in January, could fill the void left by Clinton and Trump as principled conservatives feel extremely uncomfortable with Trump, and of course cannot vote for Hillary Clinton.
Bloomberg Politics reports that some conservative donors are looking favorably upon David French entering the race and that while French is open to running, he has not formally decided.
Weekly Standard editor Bill Kristol on Sunday tweeted a tease that an “impressive” independent candidate “with a strong team and a real chance” would be entering the race soon.
FOX News reported that sources informed them that “he’s (French) talking with lots of people (donors, strategists, etc.), but in the mode of planning for it not just considering it.”
Kristol, who has been in a Twitter battle with bloviating billionaire and reality TV actor Donald Trump, hinted at a French candidacy in the Standard’s new issue, writing that “the fact of Trump’s and Clinton’s unfitness for the Oval Office has become so self-evident that it’s no longer clear one needs a famous figure to provide an alternative.”
Kristol said that to say French presidency “would be a better and a more responsible president than Hillary Clinton or Donald Trump is to state a truth that would become self-evident as more Americans got to know him.”
Conservatives hungry for a principled alternative to Trump, an unhinged narcissistic con man, and Hillary Clinton, a corrupt criminal, would undoubtedly take a strong look at David French. However, name recognition would be an uphill battle given that French is hardly a household name and a massive effort would have to be organized to educate and inform the public on who he is.
And that will take a ton of money and organization.
UPDATE: Here’s what some notable political figures, as well as what other people are saying about David French’s potential run:
I know David French to be an honorable, intelligent and patriotic person. I look forward to following what he has to say.

I have no idea if David French will run. Don't know him. But having a Bronze Star, ISIS expert run would elevate this tawdry campaign.

Why are you Trumpsters spoiling David French's chances to beat Hillary? Jump on the French Roll. A vote for Trump is a vote for Hillary.
