Dear Dr. Ben Carson, Your Defense of Melania Trump is Not Helpful

On the first night of Republican National Convention on Monday, Donald Trump’s wife Melania had the prime speaking slot. She delivered what some have described as a powerful message but further evaluation of her speech has sadly made her a laughingstock and has brought calls from both conservative radio host Glenn Beck and former Trump campaign manager Corey Lewandowski that whoever wrote or approve that speech be fired.

You see, not only was there a Rickroll part of Melania’s speech, there was also an obvious lifting of a full paragraph from the speech delivered by Michelle Obama in 2008. This was more than just a similarity. It was nearly word for word.

Granted, it was one paragraph but conservatives have called out Obama when he has plagiarized a speech. To make matters worse, the rationale given by Dr. Ben Carson, a man who went from being compared to a child molester by Trump to being a part of his campaign, is not only mind-boggling but makes the situation even worse.

While attending a Florida GOP delegation breakfast, Dr. Carson was asked about this speech controversy. His response will do more harm than good.

“If Melania’s speech is similar to Michelle Obama’s speech, that should make us all very happy because we should be saying, whether we’re Democrats or Republicans, we share the same values.“If we happen to share values, we should celebrate that, not try to make it into a controversy.”

Really, Dr. Carson? Do you really want to stand by those words that Democrats and Republicans share the same values? Do you really want to push the notion that Melania Trump should be expected to use Michelle Obama’s words because she shares a vision for America with a Marxist, divisive, Alinskyite?

You’re a lot smarter than this, Dr. Carson. But maybe your brilliance at the operating table doesn’t translate to any sort of common sense when it comes to politics.

You may have meant not harm but your explanation does not help. Moments like that will sabotage the very candidate you are attempting to help elect. You’re doing the Left’s job for them.
