Alan Grayson is the very definition of a slimy politician. The troll of the House who has made a career utilizing inflammatory rhetoric and promoting division within America now seeks a position in the Senate. To help accomplish that, Rep. Grayson raced to exploit the recent tragedy in Orlando and gain airtime and exposure by discussing the details of the terrorist attack in the earliest moments after the conclusion of the carnage.
Predictably, Grayson wasted no time pivoting to the Second Amendment and criticizing America’s gun laws for allowing the U.S.-born terrorist to purchase firearms.
Like most gun-hating politicians, Grayson also revealed that he knows nothing about firearms.
Reports indicate that Omar Mateen opened fire in the popular homosexual club in Orlando with an AR15 and a Glock pistol. Both weapons are semi-automatic. Still, Grayson honed-in on the scary-looking AR15 and criticized,
“If he was not able to buy a weapon that shoots off 700 rounds in a minute, a lot of those people would still be alive. If somebody like him had nothing worse to deal with than a Glock pistol…he might have killed three or four people and not 50. It’s way too easy to kill people in America today and we have to think long and hard about what to do about that.”
Anybody with a shred of understanding about how firearms operate should be rolling their eyes right about now.
The AR15 is the civilian version of the M16. Unlike the M16, the AR15 is semi-automatic; this means that one must pull the trigger each time one is shooting a round.
A fully-automatic is a firearm capable of firing multiple rounds with one trigger pull. Such weapons are highly restricted and require a lengthy federal application process to obtain such a weapon.
Further, what Grayson’s comments suggest is that Glocks can accomplish less carnage than AR15s as they cannot fire as rapidly. In reality, both weapons fire semi-automatically and thus they both can fire just as rapidly as one can pull the trigger. Both weapons can also be outfitted with extended magazines that require less reloading.
No reports indicate that the terrorist had modified his weapons to fire in a manner other than semi-automatic.
To call Grayson out on his rhetoric, Conrad Close, editor in chief of American Crossroads, has offered to donate $50,000 to the charity of Grayson’s choice if he can fire a semi-automatic AR15 at a rate of 700 rounds per minute.
What this indicates is that either Mr. Grayson does not understand what he’s talking about or, perhaps even worse, he understands but wishes to deliberately spread false information to further his unconstitutional narrative.
In either case, he should not be trusted with a position of power.
