New Trump Filing Shows ‘Self-Funding’ Mantra is a Scam

More than likely there have been hundreds of times where Donald Trump has claimed to be “self-funding” his presidential campaign —  the moral high ground of moral high ground according to him and his gullible supporters.

Trump’s repeated claims of being self-funded are wrapped around words that painted any other presidential candidate who took donations from supporters as “bought and paid for,” a smear that when taken literally, means that using his logic only billionaires should be allowed to run for president — but I digress.

If Donald Trump truly was self-funding his campaign, he wouldn’t have classified his “donations” to his campaign as loans, which leave open the door to him being repaid in the general election by the same billionaire donors he previously demonized as Satan in the flesh.

A new FEC filing reported by NBC News reveals:

Donald Trump insists he personally funded his primary campaign, but a new report filed by his presidential campaign tells a different story.

Trump has now spent a total of $43 million, according to his filing with the Federal Election Commission made available Saturday, and all of it is still structured as a loan to the campaign. That means he can be legally reimbursed for his spending, with new campaign donations, until August.

Why would the bloviating billionaire do that while simultaneously shooting his mouth off that he was a self-funder? Was his mouth writing checks that his mouth couldn’t cash?

He didn’t have to structure his contributions as loans. No one forced him. Because he knew his useful idiot followers would swallow anything he said hook, line, and sinker.

Of course, any casual observer, who cared to look, would have noticed the “Donate” buttons on his official campaign website, features that have been in place for months, even while he was making his phony self-funding claims and demonizing his opponents who didn’t have the good fortune of being born with a silver spoon in their mouths.

There’s still time for Trump to correct this scam. With the stroke of a pen, he could declare his campaign loans as pure donations which will make his prior claims more meaningful and truthful.

Pro-tip to all Trump supporters: We will never make America great again until we hold all of our politicians accountable for their lies, regardless of the letter that appears after their name. This standard must also apply to New York bloviating billionaires and reality TV actors with flamboyant and authoritarian personalities.
