A new, nauseating ad from the Clinton campaign has emerged to gruesomely pounce upon national grief over the continuation of gun violence. Though both left and right firmly agree on the atrociousness of gun violence, it has been reliably the failed policies of the Democrats that have enabled the crazy to rampage and the law-abiding to remain, too often, defenseless.
Though support for gun control continues to remain remarkably low, having exhausted all other possible liberal messages, the Clinton campaign has latched-onto the failed narrative as a messaging point for Hillary Clinton’s flailing and intentionally-comical campaign.
Hillary recently released an inflammatory and provocative new ad that implores Americans to crusade with her to restrict our Second Amendment rights.
“The epidemic of gun violence knows no boundaries,” Clinton’s voice warns.
“Between 88 to 92 people a day are killed by guns,” she says as a graphic appears which says the thing.
“We’re better than this,” Clinton continues to voice. “We need to close the loopholes and support universal background checks. How many people need to die before we actually act?”
This is all well and good and would be poignant if it were not nakedly and demonstrably false.
Not only is this gun show “loophole” a complete falsehood that has been debunked time and time again, but what Clinton carefully and consciously neglects to mention is exactly how any of her recycled ideas would have stopped any of the shootings in recent years.
In Sandy Hook, the deranged young man attempted to purchase a gun and was denied. He then stole a gun. No background check would have stopped that.
In Aurora? The man with no criminal history or recognized mental illness passed a background check to obtain his weapons.
In Tucson? Same deal.
In Roseburg last month? The deranged young man also passed a background check.
The point is that background checks do not look into the hearts and minds of killers. Those who have not yet broken any laws or those who have escaped scrutiny for their mental illness can and do pass background checks. So, the question at hand for Mrs. Clinton and her band of leftist crusaders is: How many gun control laws will be enough? Why is it always one more “commonsense” gun law that is needed to keep America safe?
Further, Clinton’s laughable claim that “88 to 92” people are killed each day by guns is a gross distortion of fact and common decency.
Note the phrase “killed by guns,” which suggests lives are taken by violence perpetrated against innocents. She puts a figure on it, claiming “88 to 92″ lives are taken each day by such violence. And she avails herself of the best gun control talking points by describing “gun violence” at this level as an “epidemic.” But here’s the problem with this overarching message: it isn’t true.
In reality, actual firearm-related homicides each year hover between approximately 8,500 and 11,000. And many of these are the result of the kind of gang violence and street crime we see in cities like Baltimore, Chicago, Houston, Milwaukee, New Orleans, New York City, Philadelphia, and St. Louis, among other Democrat-controlled cities.
For instance, in 2013, the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) reported 11,208 firearm-related homicides in the United States. An additional 505 accidental firearm-related deaths occurred in the US–a figure that pales in comparison to the 38,851 deaths by accidental poisoning or the 30,208 deaths caused by falls. So Clinton and gun control proponents who think like her increase these figures by adding in suicides. In this way, 11,713 firearm-related deaths–homicides and accidental deaths–quickly become 32,888 “gun violence” deaths in 2013 and an impetus for gun control.
In other words, 11,713 gun-related deaths in 2013 represent about 32 deaths a day out of an American population of 318 million people. That is not enough to give gun control the traction it needs to get moving. Add in suicides, however, and that brings the figure to 32,888–and Clinton can lump all deaths together and claim “88 to 92 people are killed” as a result of “gun violence.”
The truth that Clinton dares not to utter is the that the left aims not for a mere strengthening of background checks, but a complete inversion of our rights; the Second Amendment outlines a right that dictates the citizens of our free nation need not obtain permission from the government to arm ourselves.
The left aims for the exact inverse- those who wish to obtain a firearm must bow before the alter of big government and humble themselves to obtain permission to exercise a right that was guaranteed to us 200+ years prior.
In truth, Clinton would earn more begrudging respect if she were more honest with her intentions. She would still be a tyrant, of course; but at least her campaign message would be honest instead of serving as a long-con.
