[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Heading into any presidential election, straw polls take place throughout the country at various conferences, especially state party conventions, to gauge which candidate the public would like to see as a party’s nominee. Many individuals do not have the opportunity to participate in such a poll if they are not a delegate to their party’s state convention or do not attend a conference that takes a straw poll. Now, the Breitbart News Network is looking to change that, giving the grassroots an opportunity to have a voice in the straw poll process.
[/vc_column_text][banner300 banner=”5517620b381df”][vc_column_text]On Sunday, Breitbart announced the launch of their 2016 online straw poll. The announcement was made on their Sirius XM radio show.
Steven K. Bannon, the executive chairman of Breitbart News, explained the reasoning behind the poll.
“We are very fortunate at Breitbart to have an incredibly engaged and passionate audience that will play a central role in selecting who will be the Republican Presidential nominee in 2016.
The Breitbart Primary is our way of giving back to our audience and providing them a platform by which their voices can be heard as the Republican Presidential Primary unfolds.”
The poll will reset at the end of each month. Throughout the month, people will have the opportunity to either register as undecided or select their top 3 choices from the candidates that are in the GOP primary during that month. After the poll is reset at the start of a new month, individuals will be able to vote once again and the list will reflect any changes in campaign additions or drop outs.
Alex Marlow, Editor-in-Chief for Breitbart, said, “Our readers are some of the most voracious and astute consumers of political content. It will be educational to chart where they’re leaning throughout the stages of the campaigns, and it will create compelling content for Breitbart.com when we reveal what we learn.”
[/vc_column_text][banner300 banner=”553157113d3ff”][vc_column_text]The poll is now live at www.breitbart.com/primary. The list of candidates available includes not only those who have officially declared, but also others who are strongly rumored to be entering the race and those who have announced that they will make an announcement.
As of 3 pm Eastern today, Wednesday June 10, Texas Senator Ted Cruz was in the lead with 31% of the vote. Wisconsin Governor Scott Walker was in second place with 23%. In third place was Kentucky Senator Rand Paul with 13% of the vote.
It should be noted that Walker has not yet declared his candidacy for the 2016 GOP nomination for the presidency, but he is expected to make an announcement after his state budget talks end at the end of the month. He is, by all accounts, expected to enter the race.
Breitbart News will be announcing the results of each month’s straw poll following the close at the end of each month. If you’d like to vote, then let your voice be heart at www.breitbart.com/primary.
