There is a little know fact about Kim Davis, the Rowan County Kentucky Clerk who was jailed for her refusal to issue marriage licenses after the Supreme Court redefined marriage to include homosexual unions, that most of the media failed to cover, or intentionally covered up.
Davis was a lifelong Democrat. She is also a born-again Christian who turned her life around and takes the word of God, as professed in the Holy Bible, very seriously. She asked for a religious accommodation regarding marriage licenses, requesting that her name be removed. That request was not granted and she ended up going to jail, held in contempt of court. Even since her release, she has become the target of a vicious hate campaign from the left and has therefore made a decision based upon which party stands for religious freedom and which works to persecute Christians.
Kim Davis has announced that she is leaving the Democrat Party and is joining the Republican Party. She made the announcement at the Values Voter Summit, an annual gathering of Christian conservatives hosted by Family Research Council which is led by Tony Perkins.
While Davis did speak before the crowd at the Values Voter Summit, she did not address her party affiliation change. The news of that switch came out after a Reuters reporter asked her if she’s ever considered switching parties. Davis responded, “I’ve already done that.” In fact, not only has she switched parties, but members of her family, including her husband, have also switched parties.
Her attorney, Mat Staver, said in a statement on Saturday, “She has come to the conclusion that the Democratic Party has left her. She has decided to switch her voter registration. However, the issue of religious freedom in this case is not a partisan issue. It is neither Republican nor Democrat. It is an inalienable right and what makes America the land of liberty.”
When Davis was catapulted into the media over the issue of religious freedom and whether it should apply to her refusal to issue marriage licenses to homosexual couples due to the belief that her name on the licenses would be tantamount to her approval of the union, which she views as ungodly, it was not Democrats who came to her defense. Instead, Republicans did. Democrats, instead made her the target of ridicule and attacks.
But then again, what should we expect from the party that denied God not once, not twice, but three times at the Democrat National Convention in 2012. After denying him three times, the Democrats ultimately also booed Him.
