Another Purposefully Misleading Headline to Make Police Look Bad…

Houston is my hometown. Although I haven’t lived there for well over 10 years, I still consider Houston my hometown and Texas my home state. After all, you can take the girl out of Texas but you can’t take Texas out of the girl.

No matter where I have lived since I left the Houston area, I always find myself checking the local news sources there, including the Houston Chronicle, Channel 13 KTRK, Channel 11 KHOU, Channel 2 KPRC and FOX 26. Thursday morning was no different. As I was drinking my cup of coffee and perusing the news, I went to website for the Houston Chronicle, chron.com, and an article’s title caught my eye.screenshot-2016-10-06-at-9-41-37-am

The immediate thought that crossed my mind is that the title of this article makes it seem like a Sheriff’s Deputy simply walked into a hospital and killed a suspect who was receiving treatment. Since I’m not a Black Lives Matter militant, supremacist, racist flamethrower, I knew this title was misleading….and reckless.

For those who do not know, Ben Taub hospital is a Level 1, elite trauma center. Some who live in Houston who read this title may be led to believe that the suspect was unconscious or in some way incapacitated. That would be far from the truth.

In the first sentence, the author of the article at least cleans up his false narrative by stating that the suspect was armed. However, there is more to it than that. (emphasis mine)

The suspect is an inmate at the Harris County Jail who went to the hospital for a medical issue, said Deputy Thomas Gilliland, sheriff’s office spokesman. The inmate grabbed a weapon and attacked a doctor. A deputy at the scene told the man to drop the weapon, but he refused. That’s when the deputy opened fire on the inmate, wounding him.

So, the real story is an inmate who was being treated by medical staff grabbed a weapon, attacked a doctor, and refused to drop his weapon once ordered to by police. So, the officer did what was necessary and shot him.

But, from the Houston Chronicle, which typically leans left, we get “Deputy shoots suspect at Ben Taub Hospital” with no indication that the suspect even had a weapon. The name or identification of the suspect and officer have not yet been released. Lord help us if the violent suspect is black and the cop is white. We’ll be subjected to more Black Lives Matter lie-based nonsense, despite the facts in this case.

We live in a day and age when every single action of police officers, who put their lives on the line to protect and serve their communities, is questioned. We live in a time when police officers are criticized for any use of force, even if they are being attacked. We live in an America, thanks to Barack Obama, where police are seen as the enemy and accused of “systemic racism,’ which leads to riots in the streets even if a perpetrator with a weapon shoots at or attacks police and is injured or killed as a result of his own actions.

So, tell me…why would the ONLY major newspaper in Houston, Texas perpetuate the narrative of reckless police shootings by having a title which reads “Deputy shoots suspect at Ben Taub hospital.” Notice that this title was slapped together so haphazardly with no regard for actual truth that hospital is spelled incorrectly as “hopsital.”

Shame on the Houston Chronicle for contributing to false narratives that lead to a negative light being shed on police which, in turn, leads to the endangerment to the lives of our men and women in blue who are increasingly being attacked just for wearing a badge.
