The self-described ‘most transparent administration in history’ is hiding yet another scandal, this time it’s an internal one. The head florist at the White House, Laura Dowling, left her position suddenly on February 13 after serving as the head florist for six years. Not only did she leave her position, but reports indicate that Dowling was escorted from the White House premises. The big question is ‘Why?’
In reading Dowling’s statement regarding her departure, one given only after being pressed by the Washington Post, one might be led to believe that the parting of ways was amicable and mutually agreed upon.
“After almost 6 years as Chief Floral Designer at the White House, I have resigned in order to pursue exciting new opportunities and explore my passion for floral artistry and design. Over the next few weeks and months, I’ll be launching a new platform for my work as an author, speaker, instructor and design consultant that builds on the creative ideas and partnerships I’ve formed during my tenure there. It’s been such an honor to work at the White House and I will always be grateful for this incredible opportunity.”
Even more curious, Dowling’s statement was not issued by her directly. Rather, it was issued by the law firm Sidley Austin, which describes itself as working “at the crossroads of law and policy, providing comprehensive regulatory, policy and litigation services to domestic and international clients in numerous industries.
The Obama White House released its own statement about Dowling’s supposed resignation, after a bit of prodding. After initially simply confirming that Dowling had indeed left, the office of the First Lady, not quoting Michelle Obama specifically, released the following.
“As Chief Florist, Laura Dowling and her team treated guests of the White House to their beautiful floral arrangements. Ms. Dowling’s creations were always lively and colorful, reflecting not only the season but the unique and historic rooms which they graced. No two arrangements were ever the same and each one left guests with a lasting impression of the elegance and history of the People’s House. We are grateful for her contribution over the years and wish her well”
But, why did she leave and why the secrecy behind her departure? Such questions become even more compelling given the fact that, according to the Office of the Chief Usher, there currently is not a head florist at the White House.
There is speculation that the departure is simply due to a difference in stylistic design between herself and Michelle Obama. If that’s the case, then why the secrecy? Why was Dowling escorted off the premises? Why is there a law firm involved?
Could we soon see a case of tyrannical proportions from the White House in regards to Michelle Obama similar to the tyranny her husband Barack inflicts upon the American people? Dowling’s exit was a surprise and, given the failure of the Obama White House to be forthcoming with answers, and the fact that there is no head florist as of yet, speculation will continue until and unless the supposed ‘most transparent administration in history’ actually comes clean about this internal scandal.
Since Americans are still waiting for answers regarding Fast and Furious, Benghazi, the VA Scandal, the IRS scandal, and many more, it is highly unlikely Team Obama will come clean regarding this one. Obviously, Barack and Michelle Obama have a different definition regarding what the word transparency really means.
