INSPIRING: Praying Coach Speaks Out About Having First Amendment Rights Obliterated

“It’s ridiculous how attached you get to these kids and not to be part of it is really rough,” says coach Joe Kennedy, who was suspended for the Orwellian “thought crime” of praying after Bremerton High School (Washington state) football games.

Coach Joe Kennedy, a former Marine of 20 years, had his First Amendment rights stripped of him by progressive leftist Democrats at the school after Kennedy refused to stop kneeling in prayer at the 50-yard line following football games, a practice Kennedy has done for seven years with no opposition or outrage of any kind.

But anti-God leftists, God-haters, apparently became butthurt when players from both teams began voluntarily praying with the coach, a threat to their heathenist agenda, as orchestrated by the Obama Regime’s deceitful War on Christians.

As Coach Kennedy told The Daily Signal, even some of the team’s most bitter rivals began, over time, joining him and many Bremerton players in prayer following games.

“It’s just magical [the prayers] because it brought everybody — even the other teams back together as just people — it was awesome. This is what a team is about — at the end of the game to come together,” Cody Whaley, a Bremerton High running back told the Signal.

Kennedy said that he never required any of the players to pray and that he was never trying to push his Christianity on anyone.

“My belief is my belief. I’m not trying to push it on anybody. Faith is a very personal thing for everyone and it’s just me giving thanks.”

In November, Hall of Fame wide receiver Steve Largent, a former U.S. Congressman, came out in support of Coach Kennedy saying that nowadays youth need more — not less — coaches like Joe Kennedy.

In a statement, school officials said that somehow, in their twisted minds, Kennedy dropping a knee — after doing it for seven years prior — suddenly “poses a genuine risk that the district will be liable for violating the federal and state constitutional rights of students or others.”

Claiming that voluntary prayer is unconstitutional is a complete bastardization of the First Amendment which PROTECTS the very activity the God-hating progressives want to ban.

You can bet that if Coach Kennedy were a Muslim, the Democrat Party — the party that booed God three times at their latest national convention — would be fighting tooth and nail to defend Kennedy, as would the communist-founded ACLU.

After Kennedy was placed on administrative leave, the school told Kennedy he would not be welcome back to coach the team. In other words, he was fired.

“I would love my job back,” Kennedy said. “That’s what I’m asking for. I want to be the coach again,” he said.

Kennedy said that the discrimination against him is the hardest thing he’s ever had to go through, including his 20 years in the U.S. Marines.

Sitting next to a teary-eyed player, who tells the story of Kennedy helping him through a difficult family matter, Kennedy, full of emotion, said:

“It’s not the X’s and O’s that win in football games. It’s watching these guys overcoming the things that they go through in life and emerging as a stronger person because of it. Knowing that you get them for such a small time in their life and being able to be part of it — that’s a blessing.

That’s what God called me to do. And I’d go through it all over again in a second, cause I love these guys.”

The Daily Signal attempted to reach out to the anti-free speech Bremerton school officials for comment, but like the godless, cowardly weasels they are, they declined to be interviewed.
