Leftists Now say Jefferson Should be Removed from Nickel, Replaced with… BARACK OBAMA?

As is often the case when surrendering to bullies, the left has become even more emboldened by the recent success of the anti-Jackson jihad. The incessant whines to place a woman on currency were not silenced by offering-up Alexander Hamilton. It was Andrew Jackson they wanted, the reviled president whose legacy can be boiled-down to three shameful words: Trail of Tears.

Now, those who have been emboldened by the success of the politically correct whiners want more “progressiveness” in our money.

Namely, they want to remove Thomas Jefferson from the nickel and replace him with Barack Obama.

Yes… Barack Obama. Let that sink in for a moment. I’ll wait.

The leftist rag Slate celebrated the victory for political correctness by reengaging on the battlefield of political correctness immediately. In an article entitled, “Which White Guy Should Obama Replace When We Honor Him On Our Currency,” Slate included a picture of the Jefferson nickel X-ed out and praised President Obama’s supposed gloriousness thusly:

That Obama is the United States’ most admirable, accomplished modern president is a widely acknowledged fact, of course, but it seems possible that controversy might develop if he replaces another equally beloved figure.

The most obvious candidates for replacement would seem to be Grant and JFK, whose historic import is not quite as weighty as that of the others on the list. If we’re removing someone from the currency, though, it probably makes sense to take off a slave owner rather than an individual like Kennedy who, for all his faults, did not perpetuate the system of owning human beings as property for purposes of unpaid labor. On that note, we should probably also continue to honor Grant, whose support for civil rights during Reconstruction was for many years unjustly maligned because of the influence of white Southern revisionists.

So who does that leave? I would suggest it leaves Thomas Jefferson, who—in addition to having owned slaves and held demeaning views about racial “inferiority”—is already on two items of currency. To respect the positive elements of Jefferson’s legacy, let’s leave him on the $2, giving the nickel over to the first black president. And, while we’re at it, how about we make a symbolic statement about George Washington’s own mixed legacy by leaving him on the dollar but reserving the quarter for the first female president, Hillary Clinton?

Yes, of course! Why didn’t we see it before?! We should honor the first biracial president who has done more to devastate our economy than any president since FDR! We should honor the man who has set-back race relations decades with his divisive rhetoric and who will be leaving office with America’s standing in the world a complete humiliation.

This is liberalism in its truest form: “Forget any accomplishments (or lack thereof), our focus should be on the identity of those we wish to elevate to heroic status. Jefferson? He’s just a slave owner. Forget the Declaration of Independence, the enlightenment thought, the Louisiana Purchase and his unquestioned patriotism. Let’s honor Barack Obama, a divisive, virulently racist Marxist who has vehemently opposed the very concepts and institutions that made America great!”

Note to all RINOs: THIS is what happens when we surrender to liberals. They do not count the victory; they mark it down and then proceed onto the next social justice crusade. Nothing good comes from surrendering to bullies.
