The country is ready for the Obamas to go. Like a Biblical plague, they came from seemingly nowhere to devastate our nation swiftly. From economic misery to condemning future generations to financial servitude to waging class warfare and radical leftist crusades, Barack Obama has done considerable damage in seven short years that may never be completely repaired.
His wife, Michelle, has been less destructive but equally divisive. Though her main area of focus has been to make school lunches taste terrible, she has been keen to weigh-in on whatever ridiculous liberal talking points are lurking around Salon or the Huffington Post each week.
Though one would likely expect a college graduation speech to center on achievements and hope for the future, Mrs. Obama went another way. During a commencement speech at Jackson State University in Mississippi on Saturday, Michelle insulted her hosts by slamming Mississippi’s recently-passed religious freedom law.
“We see it right here in Mississippi — just two weeks ago -– how swiftly progress can hurtle backward,” Michelle said. “How easy it is to single out a small group and marginalize them because of who they are or who they love.”
“So we’ve got to stand side by side with all our neighbors –- straight, gay, lesbian, bisexual, transgender; Muslim, Jew, Christian, Hindu immigrant, Native American — because the march for civil rights isn’t just about African Americans, it’s about all Americans,” she said. “It’s about making things more just, more equal, more free for all our kids and grandkids. That’s the story you all have the opportunity to write. That’s what this historic university has prepared you to do.”
Of course, Mrs. Obama appears to mean that we must “stand side by side” with Christians… so long as they are willing to abandon their belief systems in order to adopt the radicalized agenda of the government in place of ancient traditions and deeply-held beliefs.
Now that’s tolerance…
Michelle’s ignorant slight indicates an uninformed understanding of Mississippi’s religious freedom law which was recently signed. At a time when those with traditional or conservative values have become targets of the government and leftist groups who declare that they cannot tolerate a difference of opinion, Mississippi took a brave stance to codify that citizens shall not be punished for maintaining certain beliefs- such as believing that marriage can only exist between a man and a woman.
Michelle then turned to using the celebratory occasion to shred political opponents:
“We pay endless attention to folks who are blocking action, blocking judges, blocking immigration, blocking a raise in the minimum wage. Just blocking,” Michelle said. “We are consumed with the anger and vitriol that are bubbling up, with folks shouting at each other, using hateful and divisive language.”
“And then there’s the countless times when that language gets personal and is directed at my husband –- charges that he doesn’t love our country,” she said. “The time he was called a liar in front of a joint session of Congress. The nonstop questions about his birth certificate and his belief in God.”
“Blocking” as Michelle called it, is an important part of our republic. Our elected leaders have a duty to “block” bad laws. They have a duty to “block” disastrous appointees. Each branch of the government is endowed with certain abilities to “block” the tyrannical efforts of other branches and the Obamas continually pretend that checking the executive’s power is somehow unpatriotic.
In fact, not only is doing so patriotic, it’s necessary for the functioning of our government.
Further, perhaps the reason people challenge Michelle’s husband’s love of his country is that he has repeatedly indicated that he loathes the nation he is charged with leading. From decimating our armed forces (both fiscally and the morale therein) to prioritizing illegals over all Americans and Muslim sensitivities over the safety of our nation, Barack Obama has been a one-man wrecking ball of tyranny and hatred for the institutions that made this country great.
Perhaps the reason people hate the Obamas is that they’re the kind of people who use school shootings to promote an unconstitutional agenda and they’re the kind of people who use school graduations to launch petty political attacks.
