Pro-Trump Newsmax TV host Steve Malzberg really wanted Senator Mike Lee to endorse bloviating billionaire and reality TV actor Donald Trump on Wednesday.
But Mike Lee, unlike many in the Republican Party, isn’t willing to sell his conservative and constitutional principles down the river just because Trump has the mystical and magical “R” next to his name, especially when Trump has done nothing to reach out to conservatives like Lee.
Instead, Trump seems to be fixated on Soviet-style socialist Bernie Sanders’ anti-freedom supporters, but I digress.
In the short clip below, Malzberg pulled the usual Trumpaloompa line, unable to sell their candidate except only to say that he’s not Hillary Clinton, who Malzberg admitted was his best attribute.
“Hey look, Steve, I get it. You want me to endorse Trump,” the normally mild-mannered and subdued Mike Lee responded. “We can get into that if you want.”
And Lee did get into it, reminding Malzberg that only weeks ago, unhinged conspiracy theorist Donald Trump accused the father of Ted Cruz , his main primary opponent, of murdering JFK. Lee called Cruz his best friend.
Lee also said that Trump’s proposed Muslim ban has many Mormons in Utah concerned, noting that in 1838 the governor of Missouri ordered that the religious minority be exterminated.
Lee said that he would like to be able to get over the obstacles Trump has laid down to supporting him, but he would need assurances that Trump would defend the Constitution and wouldn’t be an authoritarian.
