Donald Trump is famous for spouting polls that show him in a favorable light, but chances are he won’t be bragging about this one.
A new poll released Wednesday afternoon by FOX News shows major tightening in the race between the bloviating billionaire and reality TV actor and constitutional conservative Ted Cruz, who are now running in a statistical tie in the GOP presidential race.
Trump, the longtime moneybags of the establishment now masquerading as an “outsider” candidate, leads Cruz 41 percent to 38 percent, within the poll’s margin of error of 3.5 percent, with establishment RINO Ohio Governor John Kasich, who has been mathematically eliminated, but continues to hang on under the delusion that somehow he can magically steal the nomination at the convention, is in a distant third place at 17 percent.
Perhaps more importantly, a key takeaway is that Ted Cruz is defeating Hillary Clinton by three points, 47 percent to 44 percent, in a head-to-head match, but Donald Trump would lose to Hillary Clinton by a large 11-points, 49 percent to 38 percent.
A whopping 65 percent of those polled said that Donald Trump was not “honest and trustworthy” a number that is a death wish in a general election and more than likely the reason behind Trump’s attempts to smear Ted Cruz as “Lyin’ Ted,” without being able to articulate exactly what the Texas senator is supposedly lying about. Only 33 percent in the poll said that the real estate tycoon and showman is “honest and trustworthy.”
Only 38 percent of voters trusted Trump to “make the right decisions about who should sit on the Supreme Court,” an issue Cruz is obviously winning. Over half, 55 percent of voters believed that Ted Cruz would make the right decision.
Moreover, Trump had an unfavorable rating of 65 percent among registered voters in both parties even after receiving an all-time record $2 billion dollars in free unearned airtime by various news networks in the tank for the former “The Apprentice” actor, including FOX News, which has a virtual campaign team of Trump worshippers, including Sean Hannity, Eric Bolling, Jesse Watters, Bill O’Reilly, Greta Van Susteren, Judge Jeanine Pirro, and Andrea Tantaros — all who will not criticize the fellow New Yorker no matter what he says or does under any circumstances.
The poll sample was 40 percent Democrat, 39 percent Republican and 18 percent Independent. The other 3 percent were watching ESPN (joke — they are actually just confused).
As the once-crowded GOP field, which once sported 17 candidates, has narrowed, both Cruz and Kasich have benefited, more than doubling their support. However, Kasich, who has stayed in the race because of stubbornness rather than performance, was operating from a much lower base. Kasich, who received zero delegates on Tuesday, came in fourth place in Arizona, behind Marco Rubio who dropped out of the race on March 15. Trump’s support has gone up as well, but only five points since the February survey.
To show how far the GOP race has tightened, in December, the same FOX News poll showed Trump more than doubling Cruz, 39 percent to 18 percent, respectively. Now, it is a dead heat.
