New Survey Shows Vast Majority Do NOT Support a Confederate Flag Ban

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Since the tragic shooting in Charleston, South Carolina, the nation has been engulfed in a debate over a non-issue: the Confederate flag.

While those with an understanding of history claim the flag is a symbol of heritage, liberals (and faux-Republicans) maintain that the flag represents slavery and only slavery. Thus, in keeping with the leftist tradition, some argue that the flag should be banned either by government or by social forces.[/vc_column_text][banner300 banner=”5517620b381df”][vc_column_text]However, according to a recent survey, while people seem to be split on whether the flag is offensive,  a whopping 70% are against bans on the flag.

AWR Hawkins at Breitbart reports on the recent survey:

According to a Tuesday Suffolk University/USA Today survey, 70 percent of respondents said they do not want the federal government imposing a ban on the sale or manufacture of the Confederate flag.

The issue took center stage following the Charleston attack after a photo emerged of alleged gunman Dylann Roof posing with the Confederate flag. And the Suffolk University/USA Today survey was conducted June 25-29, right in the middle of the backlash against the Confederate flag.

According to Suffolk University, following Gov. Nikki Haley’s (R) calls for the Confederate flag to be removed from South Carolina’s Capitol grounds, 42 percent of Americans at large agreed — and 42 percent disagreed. When the questions was asked specifically to southerners, 49 percent of respondents said the flag “represents Southern history and heritage and is not racist.” Only “34 percent said it is racist and should be removed from official locations.”

Regarding federal action banning the sale or manufacture of the Confederate flag, 70 percent of respondents opposed it and 19 percent supported it.

The same survey found that only 38 percent of Americans believed the Charleston attack was a reflection of a larger problem of racism in America.

For the left, there is no such thing as a difference of opinion; issues that dominate the news cycles are classified merely as “right” and “wrong.” Virtually every issue is a matter not of policy or of opinion, but a matter of morals for the left who espouse the need for tolerance while, simultaneously, remaining wholly intolerant of differing viewpoints.

What remains so startling about the above report, however, is the fact that out of those questioned, 19% would support a ban on the sale or manufacture of the flag.

As we are a full generation removed from the stressing of American history and government in the public school system, we are seeing the damning consequences of having raised an ignorant generation of statists who believe it is the job of the government to protect citizens from discomfort or offense.[/vc_column_text][/vc_column][/vc_row]
