I have purchased health care insurance via the Obamacare exchange in my state for three years now. Everything in this article is based on my personal experience and by researching the various plans available in the ObamaCare exchanges.
You know all those prescription drug commercials you see every 15 minutes on T.V.? You know, those “brand name” drugs? Well, if you have ObamaCare, fuggedaboudit, because chances are, you’ll never be able to receive them unless you are willing to pay for most of the retail cost of that drug outside of a co-pay. The only prescription drugs you’ll ever have access to at reasonable co-pays under the piss-poor plans in the ObamaCare exchanges are generic drugs. Drugs whose patents have expired. Medications that have been around for decades and are not cutting edge.
ObamaCare supporters would argue that renowned healthcare carriers are available on the exchanges such as Blue Cross/Blue Shield, Aetna and United Healthcare. What they do not tell you is that the plans that those carriers sell on the exchanges are second-rate plans, and every hospital and provider looking at the “Group Number” on your insurance card knows it.
If you have top-tier United Healthcare health insurance as part of an employer plan such as is available from a company such as Amazon and need a knee replacement, just flash your card and get ready to go under the knife. If your United Healthcare health insurance plan originated from an ObamaCare exchange, prepare to be given a NSAID generic prescription drug and shown the door.
Why? Simple: the reimbursement rates in ObamaCare plans suck. Because of the low reimbursement rates, health care providers who accept ObamaCare know full well what to avoid. As an example, rather than expensive, but ultimately effective surgery for certain disorders and diseases they will choose to provide “conservative” treatments” to those under ObamaCare.
Do you require more in-depth diagnostic tests such as CT Scans? Good luck. Even if your healthcare provider offers those types of services to a patient with an ObamaCare plan, be ready to pay for them 100% out-of-pocket because they will be “subject to the deductible”. The best healthcare available in this country seems to be exclusively for patients with plans that have attractive reimbursement rates.
I have experienced premium, deductible, copay and co-insurance increases every year under Obamacare. All for sub-standard plans. And it is going to get worse. Much worse.
ObamaCare is expensive, subpar health insurance. The very “junk plans” that Obama and the Democrats that dumped this turd onto the public stated they were trying to replace.
