Police Fined by Obama Regime for Only Hiring American Citizens

Any reasonable person would think that a police department would only hire citizens as police officers. When it comes to the regime of Barack Obama, however, the lines between non-citizens, even illegals, and American citizens are not only not blurred, they are virtually non-existent.

A clear example of such a dangerous precedent was revealed in Denver, Colorado. The Denver police department was recently fined $10,000 by the Obama Department of Justice because they did not hire or take under consideration any non-citizens with work permits when they added 200 deputies to their police force between early 2015 and March 2016. In their hiring process, Denver Police stated that citizenship was a requirement. This, believe it or not, is against the law.

Denver Police will have to not only pay the fine for only hiring American citizens to serve as deputies, they are also being forced to go through all the applications submitted by non-citizens with valid work permits to consider them for a position.

In a statement, DOJ Principal Deputy Assistant Attorney General Vanita Gupta called out Denver police for unlawfully requiring one be an American citizen to be a deputy in the department.

“Eliminating this unlawful citizenship requirement will help ensure that the Denver Sheriff Department hires the best and most qualified individuals to protect and serve. The entire community will benefit from these reforms.”

Non-citizens are given protection by the government in regards to job applications through the Immigration and Nationality Act. This mandates a requirement that non-citizens with valid work permits be given equal treatment. The only workaround is if state, local, or federal law specifically states a certain job is only open to citizens. Colorado does not have such local or state laws.

The Obama Department of Justice frowns upon limiting jobs to American citizens only, however. A report issued in October made that perfectly clear.

“While federal law allows law enforcement agencies to impose a citizenship requirement where it is authorized by state or local law, this requirement may prevent a considerable number of racial and ethnic minorities—many of whom have valuable foreign language skills—from being hired by law enforcement agencies.”

Denver Police said they were unaware their actions in requiring American citizenship to police an American city was against the law.

It’s quite surprising that the Obama DOJ is suddenly interested in enforcing the law when it was recently learned that they were obstructing the FBI’s investigation into Hillary Clinton and the Clinton Foundation.
