Remember Reagan’s 80 Percent Rule? Which Lawmakers Make the Grade?

[vc_row][vc_column][vc_column_text]Ronald Reagan’s famous 80 percent rule or guideline has long been abused by squishy moderates, or RINO’s (Republicans in name only), including Karl Rove-types, as a way to continue in their unprincipled ways without being held accountable.[/vc_column_text][banner300 banner=”5517620b381df”][vc_column_text]As a reminder, Reagan’s exact quote was, “The person who agrees with you 80 percent of the time is a friend and an ally — not a 20 percent traitor.”

Taking “The Great Communicator” at his word, I decided to go to Conservative Review and use what I consider to be the best rating system for national politicians out there, the Conservative Review’s Liberty Score™which grades lawmakers, using voting records, on their adherence to conservative principles.

The score uses a school-like grading system in which 100% is a perfect score and a 0% would be perfectly horrible. As examples, RINO Senator John McCain gets an “F” with a Liberty Score of 45%, Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, another squish, receives an “F” at 54%, while 2016 Republican presidential candidate, RINO Senator Lindsey Graham also flunked with a score of only 49%.

Below is a list of U.S. Senators who receive a grade of 80% or better (80% is a “B” grade), and it’s a very select group, with only nine of the 100 senators making the grade as of June 5, 2015:

In the U.S. Representatives it was the same story, with only 43 out 435, or 10% making the cut, with Congressman Dave Brat, whose stunning upset over Eric Cantor made history, earning a perfect 100%, as did Reps. Gary Palmer from Alabama and Rod Blum from Iowa.[/vc_column_text][banner300 banner=”553157113d3ff”][vc_column_text]Reps. David Schweikert (AZ), Jeff Duncan (SC), Jim Bridenstine (OK), Justin Amash (MI), Mark Meadows (NC), and Raul Labrador all received 95% scores, solid A’s, and were followed closely by Louie Gohmert (TX), rounding out the top ten, at 94%.

What about “Surrender Caucus” leader, Republican Speaker of the House John Boehner? Well, he failed miserably by receiving a 40% grade, a big fat “F,” a real something to cry about.

So when you hear unprincipled, double-dealing crony capitalist, Rockefeller Republicans preaching unity by abusing Reagan’s 80% quote, remember that they aren’t making the grade.

If they call themselves conservative, they should start voting like one.
