“It’s a game. This isn’t politics. This isn’t justice.” ~ Richard Sherman
With television ratings crashing across the board, star Seattle Seahawks cornerback Richard Sherman, 28, never one to mince words, gave his blunt assessment of what’s currently wrong with the National Football League (NFL) during a press conference in Renton, Washington.
“The league isn’t fun anymore,” Sherman said on Thursday.
“Every other league you see the players have a good time. It’s a game. This isn’t politics. This isn’t justice. This is entertainment, and they’re no longer allowing the players to entertain. They’re not allowing the players to show any kind of personality, any kind of uniqueness, any individuality because they want to control the product. They want to control the messaging.”
A recent poll showed that over half (56 percent) of the reason for the decline in NFL viewership is players disrespecting the national anthem, which should come as no surprise to anyone (except NFL commissioner Roger Goodell, who is desperately searching for another excuse).
Each question was asked separately, allowing for a yes, no or don’t know response. Thus, respondents could weigh in on each of the seven possibilities as a contributing factor without identifying one single factor.
The leading factor – the one receiving the most “yesses” – was players not standing for the national anthem.
The poll also cites other factors, such as the presidential election as an excuse for the NFL fan exits, but speaking as one (former) hardcore fan who observes and participates in politics for a living, I watch football to escape from politics, not to be brainwashed with progressive leftist ideology or cultural Marxism and/or see our American flag disrespected.
Meanwhile, we see that over at highly politically-correct, Obama-worshipping, Colin Kaepernick-praising ESPN, they lost 621,000 subscribers in just one month — a record. They are so out of touch that they probably have no idea why.
As Richard Sherman alluded to, we watch football to be entertained, not to be “messaged” to, including to be told which charities to support, including watching grown men wear pink for weeks on end. Players and fans should be set free from these shackles and return to the days when football was about — are you sitting down for this — football…period!
And isn’t it interesting that no one in the league has free speech to criticize referees or criticize the NFL commissioner or promote the values the country was founded upon, yet if Colin Kaepernick wants to disrespect the American flag or wear a shirt praising communist butcher Fidel Castro, somehow the strict apparel rules are set aside and his “expression” is somehow his First Amendment right (Hint: it’s not. The First Amendment applies to the government limiting free speech, not a private company, which the NFL and the San Francisco 49ers are.).
The NFL has been poisoned by political correctness, i.e., Cultural Marxism, which is never a fun thing to watch. It looks like the NFL’s “chickens are coming home to roost” as someone famous once said.
