RINO Iowa Governor Terry Branstad: Stop Ted Cruz Before He Stops Cronyism in My State!

The establishment Republican Governor of Iowa, Terry Branstad, a RINO, and one of the governors who thinks failing and highly unpopular Obamacare is somehow here to stay, is hungry to keep the cash flowing from other American taxpayers to his state in the form of ethanol subsidies.

Less than two weeks before the Iowa Caucus on February 1, the pro-corporate welfare Branstad said that constitutional conservative Ted Cruz must be stopped because Cruz wants to stop his state’s gravy train.

Speaking at the progressive cronyist “Renewable Fuels Summit,” on Tuesday, Governor Terry Branstad urged voters to stop Ted Cruz because of Cruz’s bold opposition to the federal government picking winners and losers.

Because Cruz is against all subsidies — Cruz authored a Senate bill in 2014 to end all energy subsidies and mandates by 2020 — Branstad somehow thinks this translates into Cruz being in the pocket of big oil, except Cruz is against subsidies to oil companies as well.

“He’s heavily financed by Big Oil,” Branstad said, according to the Des Moines Register. “So we think once Iowans realize that fact, they might find other things attractive but he could be very damaging to our state.”

Cruz “hasn’t supported renewable fuels, and I think it would be a big mistake for Iowa to support him,” Branstad added. Asked whether he wanted to see Cruz defeated, Branstad said “yes.”

“I do believe there should be a gradual phase-out because there has been investment-based expectations,” Cruz said earlier this month.

Donald Trump immediately jumped on the bandwagon, praising Branstad’s support of cronyism and slam of Cruz:

If you’re against crony capitalism, you cannot be for subsidies — of any kind. Unfortunately, Cruz is the only Republican candidate to speak out against the subsidies, a bold move considering all previous winners of the Iowa Caucus have supported the handouts.

Donald Trump has publicly stated that he plans to continue cronyist ethanol subsidies.

As Breitbart reported in November:

Billionaire presidential candidate Donald Trump met with leaders of POET, an ethanol company here in Iowa, and some of the co-chairs of the American Renewable Fuels group to talk about the importance of ethanol.

The event was closed to the press, but they were expected to discuss the importance of the Renewable Fuel Standard policy and the economic success of the company.

After the meeting, Trump rallied with supporters here in Fort Dodge and signaled his political support for the process as he appeared on stage.

“You know what? he said. “I went out to see some of the folks on the ethanol. Good stuff and great people, put a lot of people to work out here. I just want to thank them, they’re doing an amazing job.”

Cruz further addressed the anti-free market government ethanol mandates, saying:

“The lobbyists are trying the best they can to snooker the people of Iowa and convince the people of Iowa that a government mandate is the only way for ethanol to survive. The problem is, the government is blocking ethanol. They are trying to convince you the mandate is the best way to go.”

Free markets and ethanol subsidies, or any other subsidies — like the Florida sugar subsidies Marco Rubio supports — do not mix.

Subsidies, or government losers picking winners and losers, whether it’s ethanol, oil, or Obama’s green energy cronyism, must stop.

Being against Obama’s crony greenist deals and for Republican Governor Terry Branstad’s ethanol cronyism — a bastardization of free markets — makes one an enormous hypocrite.
