We’ve all heard of the slippery slope. This is a ubiquitous term in political theory and politics as a whole. In order to craft just and appropriate policy and ideas, we cannot be contented with focusing explusively on a single issue, but must consider how the advancement of this issue would affect other aspects of society.
If we say “people should be in charge of what they ingest, not government,” we open the door for arguments for legalization of heroin or meth. Whether this is a fair argument or not, we must realize that seeking to legalize marijuana (as an example) can lead to further legalization discussions.
That’s how the slippery slope works.
One of the biggest problems with having opened Pandora’s Box of “anything goes” legitimization of perversion is that there doesn’t seem to be any stopping point.
Crusading for same-sex marriage is so last year. The truly dedicated social justice warrior is now focused on a new “civil rights” imperative: allowing men to shower and use the facilities with girls and vice-versa.
Unless one has been in a cave for weeks, he has not been able to escape the endless discussions surrounding the supposed “right” that the federal government insists one has to use whatever bathroom or locker room he or she feels like using.
This, the left claims, is a moral imperative. We must, they insist, be willing to inconvenience and violate the privacy of 99.9% of society in order to accommodate those who identify as a different gender than what they are.
They simultaneously pretend to not notice the glaring problem: this is a golden age for perverts who have wondered how they can finally infiltrate these safe spaces that have always been protected.
As they fight this ridiculous fight, liberal zealots are gearing-up to move onto the next perversion in need of defense: pedophilia.
Salon, a vile, leftist rag, released a new video with the headline: “I’m a Pedophile, Not a Monster.”
The video is a creepy guy offering commentary and claiming that he is a pedophile, but that he should be afforded more dignity in society.
The man explains that pedophilia is “not something [he] chose” and stated, “Not all pedophiles are child molesters, and not all child molesters are pedophiles.”
The man claims that he is dedicated to “educating” people about his “sexuality” and crusading for “virtuous pedophiles.”
Who didn’t see this coming eventually?
Let’s face facts; this man likely views himself as a victim. Why shouldn’t he? He has been relegated to a third-tier standing in society for a sexual proclivity that many scientists suggest is not something he “chose.” In this day and age where the left asserts that mentally disturbed men in dresses are “victims” and worthy of protection, why wouldn’t the perverts “come out” and demand similar treatment?
This is the problem with the slippery slope. One legitimization of the truly perverse leads to another and another until finally, we have leftist publications with sizeable followings pushing the beginnings of yet another “civil rights imperative” that culminates with us accepting and applauding the perverts of society.
To be fair, this nation absolutely should have a discussion about sexual offense laws and the registries that go with them. To label people indiscriminately as a “sex offender” does not always correspond to the seriousness of their crime or the dangers they pose to society.
State laws vary so wildly and they seldom account for the different kinds of crimes that can land someone with a scarlet letter on the sex offender registry.
After all, while we can debate the legality of a 22-year-old having sex with a 17-year-old, we should be able to come to an understanding as a society that this is not the same thing as a 25-year-old having sex with a 6-year-old. One is substantially more vile and harmful to society while both can land a person with the same designation.
However, while we can and should have a healthy conversation about legalities and sexuality in America, we are not obliged to herald each and every perversion as a civil rights issue worthy of our devotion.
Sadly, that’s exactly where the left is taking us as a nation and as a society…
