Conservative Republican Senator James Lankford from Oklahoma ripped the scam known as “government grants” in an embarrassing report that reveals 100 examples of big government’s abuse of hard-earned taxpayer dollars.
One ridiculous example of government waste in the second annual report of Senator Lankford’s “Federal Fumbles” is the National Science Foundation (NSF) spending $412,930 of taxpayer money to study how feminist theories apply to the study of glaciers. No joke!
Another absurdity that stands out among the 100, is this gem: The National Endowment for the Humanities, the National Endowment for the Arts, and Institute of Museum and Library Services joined to spend $495,000 of taxpayer money to study medieval smells featuring “130 works of art focusing upon the senses created from the 12th to the 16thcenturies.” Seriously!
Senator Lankford appeared on Tucker Carlson’s new FOX News program on Monday to discuss these ludicrous examples of egregious government waste, including blowing taxpayer dollars on a study of why children don’t want to eat food that’s been sneezed on. Who sits around thinking up these scams — outright middle fingers in the face of American taxpayers by government bureaucrats.
While it’s noble for Lankford and others to call for “more oversight” of government bureaucracies that “research” (scam), how about eliminating them altogether and allow meaningful research to be conducted by the private sector where money like this won’t be pilfered away? At least in the private sector, money on research would largely be spent on projects that have a chance to benefit society.
