Becky Gerritson is president of the Wetumpka Tea Party in Alabama. Her group is one of the many that were targeted, harassed and intimidated by the Obama IRS as this federal department was wielded as a political weapon against those who would not fall in line with Obama’s anti-American, far left agenda.
She did not cower and become silent. Instead, Gerritson stood up to the IRS monstrosity and testified before Congress about her experience. She has since continued to lead the Wetumpka Tea Party and has remained active and vocal in her quest to rein in government and expose corruption. On Thursday morning, Gerritson announced that she is taking her political activism to an entirely new level. She announced that she is running for Congress.
Gerritson will challenge Rep. Martha Roby, a Republican, in the primary to represent Alabama’s 2nd congressional district. While she announced her intentions on Facebook and Twitter, she held a meeting to make her official announcement at 9:30 am local time at Gold Star Park in downtown Wetumpka.
Prior to this public meeting, Gerritson released a special announcement explaining why she has chosen to run for Congress.
Over the years, many of us have expressed our frustration over our nation’s woes and the incompetence of our political “leaders.” As patriots who love this country, it has been agonizing for us to see our Founders’ vision trampled on by our radical president and our do-nothing Congress.
That is why I’ve decided that it is time that I step forward to play a more direct role in getting on nation back on track.
It is time that we, the grassroots voters of Alabama, let our voices be heard. Together, we can elect a leader that will fight to reduce the size and scope of government, promote liberty, protect life, and uphold the Constitution. Together, we can give the Second District the representation it deserves!
In continuing with her explanation, Gerritson shared that it is no small coincidence why she chose to announce her congressional candidacy at Gold Star Park. It was in that very park that she began her journey into politics at a Tea Party rally. Little did she know that she would some day be catapulted onto the national stage after the group that she led was a target of the bullying and corrupt Obama regime.
Becky Gerritson’s statement in her testimony before Congress regarding the Obama IRS was powerful. As a citizen, Gerritson called out her government for their corruption and perversion of what our founding fathers intended the federal government to be. Her announced candidacy for Congress will no doubt bring out attacks by both Democrats and establishment Republicans who would rather citizens concerned about the scope, growth and corruption of the federal government sit down and shut up.
Gerritson showed the country that she will not be silent as she delivered her powerful testimony in 2013.
“In Wetumpka, we are patriotic Americans. We peacefully assemble. We petition our government. We exercise the right to free speech. And we don’t understand why the government tried to stop us.
“I’m not here as a serf or a vassal. I’m not begging my lords for mercy. I’m a born free American woman. Wife, mother, and citizen. And I’m telling my government that you’ve forgotten your place. It’s not your responsibility to look out for my wellbeing and to monitor my speech. It’s not your right to assert an agenda. Your post, the post that you occupy, exists to preserve American liberty. You’ve sworn to perform that duty, and you have faltered…
“What the government did to our little group in Wetumpka, Alabama is un-American. It isn’t a matter of firing or arresting individuals. The individuals who sought to intimidate us were acting as they thought they should, in a government culture that has little respect for its citizens. Many of the agents and agencies of the federal government do not understand that they are servants of the people. They think they are our masters. And they are mistaken.
“I’m not interested in scoring political points. I want to protect and preserve the America that I grew up in. The America that people crossed oceans and risked their lives to become a part of. And I’m terrified it is slipping away.
After rising to national prominence and recognition among the grassroots, Becky Gerritson’s candidacy to represent Alabama’s 2nd congressional district is certain to make the establishment take notice and excite those in the conservative base throughout the country who are tired of big government cronyism and believe there needs to be more citizen politicians who have not been corrupted in the DC bubble.
