Somebody’s Lying: Trump Said Paying for the Wall Not Discussed; Mexican President Says Otherwise

Following his speech in Mexico on Wednesday, ABC’s Jon Karl asked Donald Trump whether he discussed who would pay for the wall with the Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto.

Trump admitted that the border wall dividing the United States and Mexico was discussed, but that paying for it wasn’t.

“We did discuss the wall. We didn’t discuss payment of the wall,” Trump said.

However, Mexican President Enrique Peña Nieto wrote on Twitter following the meeting that he told Trump that Mexico would not pay for the wall, as Trump has repeatedly promised from very early in his presidential campaign.

“At the start of the conversation with Donald Trump I made it clear that Mexico will not pay for the wall,” Peña tweeted. “From there, the conversation addressed other subjects and developed in a respectful manner.”
