This is No Time For STALEMATE: We MUST ADVANCE!
The announcement of Majority Leader McCarthy’s withdrawal from the speakership race today immediately left a vacuum of leadership and sent Speaker Boehner into action. That he will not step down until a suitable replacement is made could cause significant stalemate in the House. We find that shockingly convenient given that it was no secret his seat was in serious danger.
His recent resignation didn’t occur in a vacuum but as the direct result of pressure being put on him from his conference and most importantly, We The People. The barrage of calls, emails and tweets can make a difference. Through the hard work of Representative Mark Meadows (NC-11) and the Vacate The Chair motion, Boehner knew he was left with little choice.
As the Vacate the Chair motion gained momentum over the summer weeks, it marked the perfect time to just quietly say goodbye. And resigning would leave a better legacy than forced removal. Yet now, that resignation may be on hold for the foreseeable future.
Here’s what Meadow’s Vacate the Chair motion states:
Whereas the Speaker of the House of Representatives for the 114th Congress has endeavored to consolidate power and centralize decision-making, bypassing the majority of the 435 Members of Congress and the people they represent;
Whereas the Speaker has, through inaction, caused the power of Congress to atrophy, thereby making Congress subservient to the executive and judicial branches, diminishing the voice of the American people;
Whereas the Speaker uses the power of the office to punish Members who vote according to their conscience instead of the will of the Speaker;
Whereas the Speaker has intentionally provided for voice votes on consequential and controversial legislation to be taken without notice and with few Members present;
Whereas the Speaker uses the legislative calendar to create crises for the American people, in order to compel Members to vote for legislation;
Whereas the Speaker does not comply with the spirit of the rules of the House of Representatives, which provide that Members shall have three days to review legislation before voting;
Whereas the Speaker continues to direct the Rules Committee to limit meaningful amendments, to limit debate on the House floor, and to subvert a straightforward legislative process; and
Whereas the House of Representatives, to function effectively in the service of all citizens of this country, requires the service of a Speaker who will endeavor to follow an orderly and inclusive process without imposing his or her will upon any Member thereof: Now, therefore, be it
Resolved, That the office of Speaker of the House of Representatives is hereby declared to be vacant.
Boehner unquestionably has to go. We cannot wait for the caucus, the conference and the entire leadership to just agree to such. This has to be done ASAP.
A quick review of what has occurred over the last few weeks. This summer Congressman Meadows initiated a Vacate The Chair motion to indicate no-confidence in the leadership of one John Boehner. His continued capitulation to the Obama Administration demands has caused conservatives nationwide to balk at the very mention of his name.
This clever movement today sounds like it could be a backdoor avenue for Boehner to get his agenda completed without being removed forcefully from the Chair. A big “screw you!” to Conservatives.
Let’s heed this call for ACTION! Proceed with the Vacate the Chair motion! Nothing has changed about the lack of confidence in our leadership. NOTHING!
Here’s what is at risk:
Boehner wants to proceed with the bloated transportation bill, the crony Ex-Im Bank will be reauthorized, and Planned Parenthood will surely get their way as well. This is no time to dither and wonder but who.. who.. who?? That is not the question. The answer is never Boehner so his seat must be vacated!
Tell Rep. Mark Meadows to push the Motion, Tell your own reps to support the Motion, Tell radio talk shows to PUSH THE MOTION! We want to see the Chair vacated post haste!
