It’s often surprising to see totalitarian dictatorships labeled a “republic.” China, a nation with a long history of human rights abuses and dictatorial tyranny is actually the “People’s Republic of China.” Cuba, a despotic communist dictatorship much beloved by President Obama, is actually the “Republic of Cuba.”
What this means, essentially, is that government officials pretend to honor the rule of law but, in the end, just do what they feel like doing regardless of their laws or the will of the people.
In this regard, it seems that Obama’s America is really not all that dissimilar to these despotic regimes.
In February, the Supreme Court halted the Environmental Protection Agency’s (EPA) plan to regulate state carbon dioxide emissions.
Despite the Supreme Court ruling that halted the radical plan, the Obama Administration is continuing onward in clear violation of the Supreme Court ruling.
In February, the Court ruled in favor of 29 states that objected to the Obama administration’s so-called Clean Power Plan (CPP). The plan called for incentivizing “green” energy initiatives by offering federal subsidies to states that comply with the federal plan.
The Supreme Court halted the plan, but the Obama Administration’s EPA is continuing with it anyway.
This week, the EPA submitted a proposal to the White House for a “Clean Energy Incentive Program” that operates the same as the CPP. The plan would give “credit for power generated by new wind and solar projects in 2020 and 2021” and a “double credit for energy efficiency measures in low-income communities,” according to Politico.
The EPA has claimed that the plan is designed to encourage voluntary carbon dioxide emissions reductions.
You know, how Mafioso of yore would “encourage” businesses to sign-up for neighborhood “protection” lest their businesses burn to the ground.
“Many states and tribes have indicated that they plan to move forward voluntarily to work to cut carbon pollution from power plants and have asked the agency to continue providing support and developing tools that may support those efforts, including the CEIP,” reads a statement from the EPA.
The EPA can call the plan whatever they want, but such obvious attempts to skirt a Supreme Court ruling is hardly unique. Bigots attempted to sidestep Brown v. Board’s directive to integrate and the Supreme Court was forced to once again make themselves heard.
Civil rights opponents in cities like Chicago and Washington, D.C., attempted to circumvent the Heller ruling by insisting that the Second Amendment triumph did not apply to the states or to lone federal jurisdictions. This, too, was clarified and reinforced via a Supreme Court ruling.
President Obama’s reign of tyranny is nearly at an end, but his thuggish reign has set-forth disastrous precedents that may be repeated in coming years.
In this view, not only has Obama’s dictatorship been disastrous for lovers of liberty in this decade, but his shameful legacy may extend long after he has vacated the Oval Office.
