Constitutional conservative presidential candidate Ted Cruz , who said he would lead a filibuster to stop any lame-duck appointee to the Supreme Court by Obama, was interviewed by staunch conservative talk show host Dana Loesch on Monday after the unexpected death of Supreme Court Justice Antonin Scalia over the weekend.
Cruz told Loesch that it’s “silliness” for the likes of New York Democrat Charles Schumer to cry foul because there’s an 80-year precedent of the Senate not confirming Supreme Court nominees during the lame-duck final year of a presidential term.
Ted Cruz, a former Supreme Court clerk for Chief Justice William Rehnquist in his early career years, said that he knew Justice Scalia for twenty years, and described him as a “giant” and “brilliant.”
Cruz, who while Texas solicitor general won several cases before the court, told Loesch that cornerstone issues like religious liberty and Second Amendment rights hang in the balance should Obama get another leftist radical on the Supreme Court, which would give leftists a 5-4 majority.
“The Scalia vacancy really underscores the stakes in this presidential election,” Cruz told Loesch. “I believe the people of South Carolina and voters across the country are looking to elect a president who they know beyond a shadow of a doubt will appoint constitutionalists to the court, will appoint justices who will be faithful to the Constitution, who will the defend the Bill of Rights,” Cruz said.
Cruz charged Democrats with “leading an assault” on our basic rights for several decades, but that many Republicans have a “lousy” record when it comes to Supreme Court justices.
Cruz asserted that he has a proven 20-year record of fighting for the Constitution and the Bill of Rights and that Donald Trump’s multi-decade documented record as a far-left liberal, who has supported radical ideas like partial-birth abortion and limits on the Second Amendment, indicates that he is highly unlikely to spend the political capital necessary to get another Scalia-type on the bench.
Cruz said that too many Republicans have not been willing to “spend the political capital” on principled constitutionalists with a long-term track record of fighting for conservative principles, and “so they take the easy way out.”
“With Donald Trump, we can know with an absolute certainty that Donald would appoint liberals to the court.
How do we know that?
Because his entire life he has been a liberal, he has supported liberal politicians, he’s supported Jimmy Carter against Ronald Reagan, he’s given multiple campaign contributions to Hillary Clinton , to Charles Schumer , to Harry Reid , to Anthony Weiner .
Nobody who cares about conservative justices would make campaign contributions to Jimmy Carter or John Kerry or Hillary Clinton or Chuck Schumer or Harry Reid like Donald Trump has.
And the fact that he’s made those contributions, and the fact that he’s been — for most of his life — in his own words ‘very, very pro-choice’ and a supporter of partial birth abortion, means we know to a certainty that he would not invest the political capital to get a real conservative confirmed.
And the consequences of that Dana, if Donald Trump becomes president, we will get a fifth liberal judicial activist on the Court which means, among other things, if Donald Trump is president, the Second Amendment will be effectively written out of the Bill of Rights.”
Cruz also slammed both Trump and Marco Rubio for crying ‘liar liar’ every time their records are exposed in their own words.
Trump has been on the wild path for much of the day in full-on “Trumpertantrum” mode, threatening to sue Cruz over birtherism if Cruz doesn’t stop showing ads of Trump speaking his own words, which Trump calls lying.
Ted Cruz also took issue with Trump’s praise of Planned Parenthood for doing “wonderful things,” while continuing to push for federal funding for the Democrat Party money laundering operation.
“Let’s be very clear, Dana. Planned Parenthood is the largest abortionist is this country. They slaughter unborn children. Planned Parenthood doesn’t do any wonderful things.
And the fact that Donald Trump wants to keep federal taxpayer dollars going to Planned Parenthood demonstrates that he is neither a social conservative nor a fiscal conservative.”
“He can yell, he can insult, he can scream ‘liar,’ but those are the simple facts of his views,” Cruz told Loesch. “And all anyone has to do is watch the video of him saying it literally on that debate stage after claiming I was lying when I said that was his position.”
Ironically, just last month Donald Trump criticized Ted Cruz for essentially calling RINO Mitch McConnell a liar (he was and he is), using much worse language, actually, than Cruz used against Obama’s Mitch, a confirmed liar. and
And with the case of Cruz, Trump has zero evidence to back up his claim that Cruz has lied, other than his belief that if he keeps repeating it, his sycophantic followers will accept it as truth.
