“Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are flip-sides of the same coin. Donald Trump has made billions buying influence in Washington. Hillary Clinton has made millions selling influence in Washington.”
“But if your are fed up with Washington, with the corruption of Washington, then it doesn’t make any sense to support Donald Trump who has been enmeshed in the corruption of Washington.”
Donald Trump has spent the last three months or so calling constitutional conservative Ted Cruz a liar. Repeatedly, Trump shouts “liar! liar!” even questioning Cruz’s Christianity.
However, even with Trump’s Saul Alinsky-inspired personal smear campaign against Cruz, he hasn’t been able to make it stick because those who have followed Cruz’s career closely knows that exactly the opposite is true. Ted Cruz has a track record of doing exactly what he says he will do, and voters who pay attention see him as trustworthy, and perhaps this is why Trump continually perpetuates his character assassination against Cruz.
Moreover, Trump has not been able to articulate exactly what Ted Cruz has said that is a lie — because he can’t. Like a projecting third-grade bully, he just repeats it over and over and hopes it will stick.
“One of the biggest liars I’ve ever seen in my life. I really mean it,” Trump says about Cruz, unable to explain what he lies about.
Well, apparently Ted Cruz is sick of the smear and decided to let Trump have it on CNN Monday night. Except with Cruz, he is able to articulate his accusation against the bloviating billionaire and reality TV actor who sometimes flip-flops on issues so fast, it’s difficult to know exactly what he believes or what he would do if elected.
After CNN’s Wolf Blitzer played one of Trump’s many hatchet jobs, calling Cruz a liar without being able to explain how, Cruz responded, except he got very specific, explaining that the entire premise of Donald Trump’s campaign, that he is somehow an “outsider,” is built on a lie.
“I will say this: Donald’s campaign — his entire campaign is built on a lie,” Ted Cruz asserted.
“I understand the people who are supporting Donald. They’re frustrated with Washington, with politicians in both parties that have been lying to us — that make promises — they go to Washington and they do the exact opposite of what they said.
But if your are fed up with Washington, with the corruption of Washington, then it doesn’t make any sense to support Donald Trump who has been enmeshed in the corruption of Washington.
The lie behind Donald’s campaign is that he will stand up to Washington. He is the system.
Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton are flip-sides of the same coin. Donald Trump has made billions buying influence in Washington. Hillary Clinton has made millions selling influence in Washington.”
Ted Cruz then reminded Blitzer that Donald Trump has funded the exact politicians whose policies he now pretends to deplore — for forty years, including Jimmy Carter, John Kerry, Harry Reid , Joe Biden, Charles Schumer and Hillary Clinton, even in her 2008 presidential campaign.
Cruz pointed out that Trump has a long history of supporting the very same policies that have created much of the anger in voters over the past several years, like the taxpayer-funded bailout of Wall Street, Obama’s stimulus plan and eminent domain abuse.
