This is Why the Democrat Party Continues to Move Further to the Left

Question: What car would you pick: a shiny new Cadillac that you’ve yearned for and had your eye on but would require your savings (or obtaining a loan for), or……a six-year-old used Subaru for FREE?

For many Americans, the answer would be the Subaru and the Democrat Party would be the source providing it.

Another question: Which one of the aforementioned cars would you want? Very few would choose the used Subaru. In a land of folks driving only used Subaru’s and brand new shiny Cadillac’s, you can bet the Subaru owners would come to resent the folks who chose to save some of their earnings or simply pay cash to acquire their Cadillacs. Today, in this country, we live in that land.

It’s easy to influence voters when you are offering free things. But it’s lazy politics. It makes no demands at all on the electorate you are chasing after. And after awhile, used Subarus aren’t enough.

Just take a look at the websites of Bernie Sanders and Hillary Clinton and see what they’re offering voters. It’s like Candy Land. From free college to paid vacation leave, it’s a grab bag of free stuff. The Democrats know that none of what they are offering is actually “free”. They claim it will be “paid for”.

The fact is that the government only acquires its money to pay for its programs and services from taxes, fees or by creating DEBT. All of that money ultimately comes from somebody other than the government. The Government produces NOTHING. It manufacturers nothing. It risks nothing. This risk-free environment spawns politicians who see government as a never ending gift bag to disperse to loyal subjects that only have to promise one thing in return: their vote.

In reality, however, there are always caveats for such purported beneficence. Always. Once you make a certain amount of income, that gift bag is quickly snapped away. And what that level of income will be is always up to them and subject to change at their will.

No more soup for you as the Soup Nazi would say.

This is how division is created and the Democrat Party thrives on division. Once you can separate segments of people into “those folks” (usually Republicans and Conservatives) and convince others that they are enemies that will take away what was given to you for “free”, you create a rock solid force of loyal, organized and extremely motivated voters.

If those who receive such entitlements cannot, or refuse to earn more of what they desire, they will simply unite and demand more from those who have provided what they currently have been afforded. That is why the Sanders and Clinton websites are a Sears Catalog of free goodies. If free “pre-K”, college and paid vacation leave are in the gift bag this election cycle, the next one will have to include things like free dental care and high-speed internet.

The Democrat Party of today is mostly the opposite of the Party it once was under John F. Kennedy. His most famous quote is: “Ask not what your Country can do for you, ask what you can do for your Country”. Today, THIS is the platform of the Democrats: “Ask not what you can do for your Countryask what your Country can do for you”

The fatal flaw in this platform is that once you create the kind of entitlements that Democrats (and indeed, many Republicans) have offered, it is never enough to continually secure votes and more carrots have to be attached to strings, thrown to those hungry for more carrots.

When Bernie Sanders or Hillary Clinton promises “paid vacation leave”, they know a large part of the electorate will bite. Its sounds “fair”, doesn’t it? You gotta’ be “mean” to be against such a thing, right?

Getting paid for not working is hard to say no to. It is difficult to see such a “gift” as a bad thing to vote against. Especially if you convince the citizenry that it is a RIGHT. That is unless you’re the small business owner paying for it not just by the loss of the wages you are forced to pay, but also having to replace the product of labor you are now missing. Democrats know how easy it is to put forth such promises even though they are aware these promises will have to be provided long after they are out of office; the true provider burdened indefinitely.

Asking the electorate to be responsible in providing for themselves is essential in a free Republic, but very difficult politically today. So giving things away lazily is the easy way into office. Republicans are guilty as sin in this regard as well. Make no mistake, Medicare Part “D” was given to the older voter block by George W. Bush in exchange for their votes.

The Democrat Party’s free gift bag will only become larger and larger until, united as a country, we start to reject it knowing that it results in a hostile, divided land of used Subaru owners, void of new Cadillacs.
