To Protect and Serve: Civilian in Houston Demonstrates to Police that #BlueLivesMatter

There is a war on police officers in this country. Some want to deny it, but it is real. The outright assassination of Harris County Deputy Darren Goforth as he was fueling his patrol vehicle in full uniform highlights the dangers that police face. In today’s America, the badge makes them a target.

One civilian in Houston decided to take matters into his own hands in showing police that there are people who appreciate what they do every day, putting their lives on the line to protect and serve their communities.

In a beautiful display, this unnamed civilian showed the police officer that he had his back. As the unidentified police officer was preparing to pump gas into his police cruiser, the civilian walked up to him and let him know he would watch the area to make sure that the officer remained safe.

It’s sad that it has come to this, that police have to be concerned about their safety as they are doing a routine task such as pumping gas. But, it is refreshing to see a community rally behind police, in this increasing climate of anti-police rhetoric, to show them that their lives matter.
