During Wednesday night’s presidential debate between Donald Trump and Hillary Clinton, Trump refused to say whether he would accept the results of the presidential election, which he has ramped up describing in recent weeks as “rigged.” When asked by moderator FOX News’ Chris Wallace if he would accept the results, Trump said, “I will tell you at the time. I’ll keep you in suspense.” During a rally in Delaware, Ohio, however, Donald Trump changed his tune and offered the one circumstance that would cause him to accept the election results.
In short, Donald Trump said he would accept the results of the 2016 presidential election only if he wins.
“Ladies and gentleman, I wanna make a major announcement today. I would like to promise and pledge, to all of my voters and supporters and to all of the people of the United States, that I will totally accept the results of this great and historic presidential election — if I win.”
Of course, his fawning crowd cheered.
Trump is once again working to appeal to his base with no real attempt to broaden his support. Is this a winning strategy?
