President-elect Donald Trump has chosen his Health and Human Services (HHS) secretary, Georgia Congressman Tom Price , a strong opponent of the failing 2,700-page behemoth legislation known as Obamacare, Obama’s signature legislature “achievement,” a law that Trump has promised to “repeal and replace.”
Price, an orthopedic surgeon by trade who has been a leader in introducing legislation to repeal and replace Obamacare, like the “Empowering Patients First Act,” would be in charge of dismantling Obamacare which has resulted in an unnecessary skyrocketing of health insurance premiums, soaring deductibles, and millions of Americans losing both their existing coverage as well as their doctors because of the 2009 law rammed through with 100% Democrat support.
The NY Times, the Washington Post, the Wall Street Journal, and other news outlets reported Monday evening that the six-term congressman had been selected to serve as HHS secretary, according to sources in the Trump transition team.
“The fact of the matter is, the American people don’t want Washington in charge of health care,” Rep. Price said in a 2012 CBS interview. “ So we continue with our message and that is that we need to repeal this law in its entirety because its premise is that Washington knows best and then we need to move forward in an open, honest, deliberate manner and correct the challenges that are out there in the health care arena so that patients, families, and doctors are making medical decisions and nobody else.”
Fellow George Republican, Senator David Perdue praised the nomination of Tom Price in a statement.
“Tom is a fellow Georgian who understands that we need to stop Washington’s takeover of our health care system. As a doctor, he is seen as a leading voice on health care policy and has a common-sense plan to replace Obamacare that will lower costs and put patients in charge of their health care choices.”
I’ve had the opportunity to work closely with Tom, and there is no doubt in my mind that he will do a fantastic job improving our nation’s health care system and the lives of all Americans.”
Tom Price is viewed as a strong conservative that is already familiar with the budgeting and policy intricacies. Price formerly served as chairman of the Republican Study Committee and in 2015, began serving as chairman of the House Budget Committee, a position he still holds.
President-elect Trump is reportedly set to formally make the announcement as soon as Tuesday morning, and it likely means that ill-conceived, government-centered Obamacare will be ripped out by its roots.
