We are often judged by the company we keep. If one pals around with Mafioso, it might be safe to determine that that individual is not on the straight-and-narrow. This method of assigning reputation is inexact and sometimes unfair, but more often than not, one can tell a lot about a person by his friends.
Further, who one hires to represent him can be telling. Donald Trump has entrusted his campaign to Corey Lewandowski, a man who, on Tuesday, turned himself in regarding a simple battery charge filed against him by the Jupiter, Florida, police over an incident where he allegedly grabbed a former Breitbart reporter, Michelle Fields.
Now, to help defend against this charge, Lewandowski has retained an attorney with a scandalous past of his own.
More specifically, the attorney, Kendall Coffey, was forced from his U.S. attorney position in 1996 after he was accused of biting a stripper.
According to reports at the time, Coffey, who was appointed by then-President Bill Clinton in 1993, resigned after he was summoned to Washington to discuss the allegation that entailed him biting a nude dancer at a Miami-area strip club. A day after the meeting with then-Attorney General Janet Reno, Coffey resigned.
The Miami Herald summarized the alleged incident:
Ejected from the club after his failed attempt to kiss the stripper ended with him biting her instead, he used a credit card to pay the $900 bill. Later he sent his father to the bar to buy the credit-card slip back at a premium price of $1,200, which tipped the irate stripper and her even-more-irate husband off that they’d been dealing with someone anxious to conceal his identity. Their complaints eventually attracted an investigators from the office of the U.S. Justice Department’s inspector general.
Coffey did not immediately resign after the alleged incident; however, after two months, the alleged incident became a campaign liability for Clinton during reelection and Coffey resigned.
On Tuesday, Trump spokesperson Katrina Pierson lashed-out at a Cruz spokesman on CNN and maintained that he was being untruthful about Lewandowski retaining the services of Coffey. Host Wolf Blitzer cleared it up as he read the official Trump Campaign release indicating as such.
