Tucker Carlson Gets Megyn Kelly’s Slot, So Who Gets His?

With a press release on Thursday morning, FOX News made it official. Tucker Carlson, whose show Tucker Carlson Tonight debuted on November 14, 2016 on FOX News in the time slot formerly held by Greta Van Susteren, will move into the 9 pm Eastern slot, succeeding Megyn Kelly’s The Kelly File.

In their statement, FOX News executives noted the success of Carlson’s show in a short period of time.

After a record-breaking launch in the 7PM/ET hour this past November, Tucker Carlson Tonight has become one of the most buzzed about cable news programs on television. Featuring powerful analysis and lively debates with guests from across the political and cultural spectrum, the show finished December as the number two cable news program in the Adults 25-54 demographic behind only The O’Reilly Factor.

In commenting on the new schedule, Mr. Murdoch said, “In less than two months, Tucker has taken cable news by storm with his spirited interviews and consistently strong performance. Viewers have overwhelmingly responded to the show and we look forward to him being a part of Fox News’ powerful primetime line-up.”

Carlson, founder of the Daily Caller, has been a FOX News contributor since 2004 and was named co-host of FOX and Friends Weekend in 2012.

With Tucker Carlson’s being given the premiere time slot of 9 pm Eastern, that leaves open his 7 pm Eastern slot. Moving into hour of the programming line-up will be Martha MacCallum, who currently anchors America’s Newsroom in the morning with Bill Hemmer. MacCallum’s show, entitled The First 100 Days, will focus on coverage of the beginning months of the Trump administration. Her role in relation to coverage for the Trump presidency will not end there.

Additionally, she will co-anchor the network’s Inauguration Day coverage on Friday, January 20th alongside Chief Political Anchor Bret Baier. MacCallum recently signed a multi-year deal to remain with FOX News.

Murdoch also had high praise for MacCallum, who has hosted America’s Newsroom since 2010 and has been with FOX News since 2004.

“Martha is a versatile and skilled anchor who has proven to be an essential component of our news programming. For the last 12 years, our viewers have trusted her reporting and we are pleased she will be part of our primetime line-up for the first 100 days of the new presidency.”

Megyn Kelly, who announced on Tuesday that she would be leaving FOX News for a new position with NBC News, congratulated both Carlson and MacCallum on their new gigs.
