Report after report read that Facebook has “denied” censoring conservative topics and websites in favor of progressive leftist ones following whistleblowers’ bombshell admissions from former Facebook “news curators,” first reported by the technology site, Gizmodo, but that is simply not the case, assuming that words still have meaning.
“I’d come on shift and I’d discover that CPAC [Conservative Political Action Conference] or Mitt Romney or Glenn Beck or popular conservative topics wouldn’t be trending because either the curator didn’t recognize the news topic or it was like they had a bias against Ted Cruz,” a former Facebook news curator told Gizmodo, which flies in the face of Facebook’s claim that its trending list simply lists topics that are presently the most popularly discussed on the social media site.
“I believe it had a chilling effect on conservative news,” one whistleblower told Gizmodo.
Nearly every news outlet reported that Facebook “denied” tamping down conservative media, including the Obama White House, whose paid liar, Josh Earnest, immediately said that he took the social media giant at their word.
Except there’s one tiny problem. There is no denial to believe because Facebook did not specifically deny that the fascistic treatment of conservatives occurred. It only said that they had “rigorous guidelines” that “do not permit the suppression of political perspectives.”
However, the official statement does not say that the guidelines were followed, how strictly they were supervised, or that it wouldn’t have been possible for bias to occur based on the systems they supposedly have in process.
“These guidelines do not permit the suppression of political perspectives. Nor do they permit the prioritization of one viewpoint over another or one news outlet over another. These guidelines do not prohibit any news outlet from appearing in Trending Topics.”
Notice that Facebook never said that the bias did not occur (they did deny that they artificially planted Black Lives Matter to Trending Topics) against conservative websites or topics.
Just because the United States has a Constitution, doesn’t mean that politicians follow it. And just because Facebook says it has policies against political censorship, doesn’t mean that it hasn’t occurred.
As a co-founder of PolitiStick, I can state for the record that we believe since January Facebook has been suppressing the distribution of our stories when posted on Facebook, after we built the page to over 225,000 “Likes,” and it has financially harmed us as it has probably hundreds of other conservative websites who have stood up to progressivism in both political parties.
Facebook is a private, non-government entity. They are not violating the First Amendment, as some have incorrectly argued. As a private company, they can publish or not publish anything they want on their website.
However, they should not advertise themselves as something they’re not and truth-in-labeling does apply. They should not be promoting themselves as purveyors of free speech when, in essence, they are pushing a leftist political agenda.
Conservative websites, like ours, have spent sizable amounts of money on Facebook ads, only to find out that the money was flushed down the toilet. This modern day bait and switch led companies to believe that they could build an audience by pouring more and more money into Facebook ads.
More than likely, this is the tip of the iceberg for Facebook. There have been countless examples of conservative Facebook pages being temporarily or completely shut down due to Facebook’s leftist bias. Maybe now those will be brought to the surface for the entire world to see.
I smell a class-action lawsuit in Facebook’s near future.
