What is EB-5 Visa Program?

The EB-5 Visa Program also known as the Immigration Investor Program, has set off an essential way of investing in development projects in the United States. The program is attracting billions of dollars to the U.S. economy and creating thousands of employment opportunities in the United States. EB-5 visas allow foreigners to immigrate to the United States if they are willing to make an investment in a country’s business. EB-5 visa holders can bring along their spouse and unmarried children under the age of 21 to the U.S. And recent improvements towards clarity in the EB-5 investor program by USCIS have resulted in increasing number of program applicants in recent years.

How does EB-5 Program Works?

  • The EB-5 program is currently the only visa program introduced to enable foreign investors to gain permanent residence or a green card in the United States of America. The minimum investment required is $1 million, or $500,000, if the investment is made in a rural or high unemployment area. Moreover, the investment must result in providing at least 10 employment opportunities.
  • Around 10,000 EB-5 visas are issued each Fiscal Year.
  • To qualify for the EB-5 program, investors have to invest in any job-creating business, or can even make investment through regional centers approved by USCIS to boost economic develoment in defined areas.
  • If initial application of the investor gets approved, the investor can apply for conditional residence in the United States. The conditional residence lasts for two years. Post that, the investor can apply for a permanent residency, but only if the investment has resulted in the creation of a minimum of 10 jobs.

What are USCIS Approved Regional Centers?

A regional center is an economic entity, public or private, that helps boost economic growth, promote regional productivity, create job opportunities, and attract capital investment. For getting an approval and official regional center recognition, USCIS requires that the proposal showcases as to how the center will boost economic development in a specific geographic location within the United States.

Although the recognition and designation of regional centers doesn’t involves any government endorsement, an investor in a regional center project benefit from a more extensive concept of job creation, including both indirect and direct jobs, in order to approve the applicant for the visa. The regional centers can play a significant role by assessing investors’ ad their investment projects to ensure high-quality, long-term job creation. Today, regional centers in the United States are multiplying and have become the chief driving force for EB-5 investment.
